HS Roundup: Lady Bobcats tennis opens new season with road loss to New Philly

NEW PHILADELPHIA - Cambridge High's girls tennis team opened the new season with a 4-1 setback to host New Philadelphia on Wednesday evening.

"We have a pretty young team and I think we had some nerves tonight," CHS head coach Tim Gibson explained. "We came out and won that first game, then it went downhill the rest of the night."

Cambridge took the opening game of the night in first doubles action with the team of Kylie Taylor and Emma Krise picking up a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

In first singles, Kilee Jeffery dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision; second singles saw Reese Antill take a 6-0, 6-0 loss; in third singles it was Selina Garcia falling by a 6-0, 6-0 score. In second doubles the CHS duo of Jaelyn Combs and Magali Garcia took a 6-2, 6-0 defeat.

Cambridge opens the home season on Saturday at 10 a.m. with East Liverpool coming to town.
