HS Roundup: John Glenn's McCullough earns district golf berth

CIRCLEVILLE — John Glenn junior Abby McCullough tied for second overall with an 83 and earned one of three individual berths from Tuesday's Division I girls golf sectional at Pickaway Country Club.

The Muskies were fifth with 376, as Elise Abrams added an 88, Addy Burris a 96 and Carlie Ellsworth a 109. Libbee Baughman also had 117.

Sheridan came in seven with 414 with Morgan Wamer leading the way with an 89. Haven Jenkins carded 104, Ryan Satterfield 106 and Adi Calendine 115 to round out the scoring.

Hilliard Darby won with 340 followed by Gahanna Lincoln with 352 and Olentangy Liberty 359, as the top three teams advanced to the district tournament.

Tri-Valley girls eighth: Makayla Hutchison carded an 87 and led the Scotties to a total of 433, as they placed eighth in the Division I sectional at Blacklick Woods.

Dublin Jerome won the team title with 308 with Dublin Coffman second (329) and Granville third (362), as the top three teams advanced to the district tournament.

Emily Stanford added 110, Delaney Bell shot 116 and Kate Burkhart chipped in 120 to round out the Tri-Valley scoring. Gwyn Dal Ponte also had 130.

Tri-Valley boys competed at Denison: Connor Preston shot 99 to pace the Scotties, who finished 12th with 442 at the Division I sectional at Denison.

Jacob Grear added 112, Garrett Brocklehurst 115 and Xander Smalley 116 to finish Tri-Valley's scoring, while Arik Grafton shot 120 in the fifth spot.

Upper Arlington won the team title with 296, while Dublin Jerome was second with 311 and Granville third with 318, as the top three teams moved on to the district tournament.

Boys Soccer

Tri-Valley 4, West Muskingum 1: Sam Schott's first-half goal with 14 minutes left in the half proved to be enough, as the Scotties topped the Tornadoes in Muskingum Valley League boys soccer.

Gage Hindel found Gael Oseguera to make it 2-0 early in the second half, while Osegura added his second goal on a Lucas Cameron assist and Cameron assisted Schott's second goal for a 4-0 lead.

No information was available on West Muskingum.

Morgan 5, Sheridan 2: Tavian Myers, Jude Garber, Brylee Shannon and Elliot Voytko scored in the first half, as the Raiders led 4-0 at the break in a MVL win.

Shannon added another goal in the second half and also had an assist, while Josiah Hamilton scored both Generals' goals, and Jim Swain assisted the first goal.

Philo 1, New Lexington 1: Wes Lafollette put the Electrics up 1-0 at the half, on an assist by Trace Wilson, but the host Panthers answered with a tally in the second half to earn a draw.

Hunter Wallace made four saves for Philo, which moved its unbeaten streak to three straight.

No information was available on New Lex.

John Glenn 5, Coshocton 0: The Muskies scored twice in the first half and remained on top of the MVL, but no other information was available.

Rosecrans 2, Liberty Christian 2: Grady Labishak scored a pair of unassisted goals and Steven Porter made saves, as the Bishops earned a draw.

Volleyball

West Muskingum 25, 25, 25, Crooksville 17, 16, 16: Rebecca Strunk hit 18 kills and Liv Drabik totaled 14 points, 36 assists and 12 digs, as the Tornadoes swept the visiting Ceramics in MVL Small School Division play on Senior Night.

Maelee Collins made 17 digs, Brynn Lundell was 8-of-8 serving with four digs and two kills, Erica Flood passed out six assists and Julianna Locke added five digs to lead the Ceramics. Khirra Wilson, Paige Frame and Ellie Ferguson also had three kills apiece, Wilson was 7-of-7 serving and Mylee Moorehead was 8 of 9 serving and Taisia Riggs added three digs.

New Lexington 25, 25, 25, Morgan 20, 16, 10: Jerilynn Koehler hit 11 kills with three digs and three aces and Abby Wilson collected nine kills to lead the Panthers in a sweep of the visiting Raiders in Small School action.

Trinity Cook tallied six kills and five digs, Nora Duperow added four aces, four digs and three kills and Gracie Newlon chipped in four digs and two aces for New Lex.

Ashtyn Filkins made 20 digs, Evelyn Newton hit seven kills with two blocks and Chloe Baker passed out 16 assists with three digs and a pair of aces to lead Morgan. Odessa Smith added seven digs, three kills and two blocks, Blair Clawson five digs, three kills and three aces and Klaire Cain and Montana Pettet two kills apiece.

New Lex reserves won 25-22, 25-16, as Caroline Dupler had five kills and three digs, Jorja Burkhart 12 assists and two aces and Katelynn New three aces and two digs. Myleigh Williams totaled nine digs, Riley Cunningham seven digs, Paige Lanning five digs, four assists, two kills and 100% serving, Jacee Wallace six digs and 100% serving and Klaire Cain four digs to highlight the Morgan effort.

Sheridan 25, 25, 25, Philo 10, 11, 13: Jamisyn Stinson tallied 11 kills, 11 digs and two blocks and Alyssa Ward hit 10 kills with five digs, three blocks, two aces and 5-of-5 serving, as the Generals moved to 13-4 overall and 12-1 in the MVL with a Big School Division win.

Dylan Fox passed out 11 assists with four digs, four aces and 11-of-13 serving, Alexis Bradley had 14 assists, four digs and 9-of-10 serving and Nora Saffell chipped in five kills for the winners.

Addison Grosse collected eight kills and seven digs, Lily Talbot 16 assists, five digs, two aces and 5-of-5 serving and Madison Hupp nine digs and five kills as Sheridan reserves (14-3, 12-1) won 25-10, 25-13.

Sheridan freshmen (16-2, 9-1) won 25-9, 25-18, as Maddie Stoltz was 20-of-20 serving with seven aces and five digs, Ella Thomas 7-of-7 serving with eight assists and three digs, Jaycee Wilson 10-of-11 serving with five digs and two aces and Lainey Miller had four kills.

No leaders were provided for Philo.

John Glenn 25, 25, 25, Maysville 8, 12, 6: Kara Fields, Emma Briggs and Aubrey Larrick all had five kills, Fields made four blocks and Lauren Blair set out 22 assists with five digs and two aces, as the Muskies (8-10, 6-7) took care of the host Panthers in a Big School match.

Sarah Wayne and Graceann Hitchcock four digs apiece, Emma Dolan served five aces with three kills, Briggs served three aces, Hannah DeMattio added three kills and Sydney White made three digs for John Glenn.

Olivia McPeek collected eight assists and sis digs and Haylee Cornett had two kills for Maysville.

John Glenn reserves (7-11, 6-7) won 25-11, 25-22, as Lilly Robinson had nine assists and eight aces, Sophie Derry five kills and Brelynn Barr three kills, three assists and three digs. Avyen Johnson had five digs, two kills and a block and Dorothy Patterson added four kills for Maysville.

John Glenn freshman won 23-25, 25-18, 25-23 behind seven aces, seven digs, four kills and three assists from Addi Babcock, four kills and six digs by Faith Hayes, eight digs by Barr and four aces from Delaney Woodard. Dorothy Patterson had eight aces and eight kills and Chesney Carter added 10 digs, three kills and three aces for Maysville.

Meadowbrook 21, 25, 25, 25, Coshocton 25, 23, 21, 17: Camden Black totaled 19 kills and 18 digs and Megan DeVillez added 15 kills as the Colts rallied past the host 'Skins in a Small School match, improving to 16-2 overall and 13-0 in the MVL.

Ella Jefferis had 47 assists with nine kills and eight digs, Karly Launder had eight kills and eight digs and Mylee Arnold chipped in 15 digs for the winners.

Leading the way for the 'Skins was Jalynn West, who dished out 33 assists from her setter position. She also collected five blocks, four kills, 14 digs and two aces, while Jalynn's favorite targets on offense were Kenidi Jackson who pounded 11 kills, Lindsey Bryant who just missed double figures with nine, and Saige Abbott who had six kills.

Relentless team defense kept the Redskins (13-6, 8-5) in the match as Miyah Davis led all players with 25 digs, and at the service line, Bryant and Abbott each served up three aces.

In the reserve contest, Coshocton fell in straight sets 25-10, 25-5, as Avi Pfiester had four digs for the 'Skins (6-12).
