HS Roundup: Fort Myers weightlifting wins district; Palmetto Ridge wrestling wins regional

·5 min read

Here's a roundup of Southwest Florida high school sports from Friday, Jan. 21.

Fort Myers brought home their second straight Class 2A-District 14 girls weightlifting title, compiling 94 total team points, more than double second-place Mariner (43) Friday afternoon.

“I think the biggest part or the biggest contributing factor to being able to repeat is your senior leadership,” Green Wave coach Pat Casey said. “The girls that we had on our team last year that were able to win that championship, getting them back showing the other girls what it took in the weight room to you know, to come out here and win again today.”

Casey and the Green Wave will look to continue their success at next week's regional meet at Charlotte High.

“Very proud of the girls and what they're able to accomplish,” Casey said. “They worked all season long for this moment and because of their efforts throughout the entire course of the season, we're able to accomplish winning the district championship today.”
