When you have a lot of financial questions, you need a professional who can easily answer every question that may arise — at every point in your life. But you don’t necessarily just need one financial planner or financial advisor. Working with a team of financial advisors or financial planners can ensure that clients have access to professionals with experience across a variety of disciplines. A team enables professionals to play to their strengths as well, which makes the team more productive overall.

Amal Hagisufi, Felicity Di Pisa and Mike McNeill are a team for Prudential Advisors, working as a team based out of San Diego, California. The three — Hagisufi is a financial planner and Di Pisa and McNeill are financial advisors — decided to form their team during 2021. Here’s why that decision has helped them reach their goals, both for themselves and their clients.

Offering a holistic financial experience

For each of the three, being on a team helped them focus on their unique abilities and experience. The team offers a suite of financial solutions; specializing in insurance, retirement planning, financial planning strategies, saving for education and small business needs, among others. However, Hagisufi mainly handles protection planning for the team while Di Pisa focuses on investment strategies. Meanwhile, McNeill focuses on property and casualty, insurance and estate planning strategies.

When a client comes to them, they might speak to any of the three, depending on availability, preference and what they want to discuss in a meeting. “Because we have such specified roles on the team, clients know that we're knowledgeable in the field,” explains Hagisufi. “I'm not spending time looking at the market, because I'm spending time researching various protection strategies for my clients. They know that I'm delivering the best of my knowledge.”

Delivering continuity to clients

McNeill, who has worked with Prudential for 30 years, finds that clients also experience the benefits of continuity from the team. If someone is out on vacation, another team member can easily cover. Plus, a team can offer flexibility and balance for everyone.

“Clients want to know they’re in good hands for their financial well-being,” McNeill says, adding that he appreciates he has team members he trusts that he can refer clients to if his calendar is packed. It’s allowed him to customize his weekly schedule without sacrificing his ability to deliver quality results to clients. “When I first started in the business, I was working 70 or 80 hours a week,” he says. “Now, I’m at a point where I’ve built up a book of business and want to enjoy the fruits of my labor. I feel much better having a team in place who, with the help of my marketing assistants, provide the best possible service to my clients who rely on me.”

And the three agree that a team mentality can help deliver more creative, customized client solutions. Clients know that all three will look at the recommended strategies and weigh in on their thoughts. “Sometimes, one of us will come up with something the other hasn’t thought of, which is great,” Di Pisa says.

Work that matters

A relationship between a financial professional — or a financial team — is personal. And that’s part of what drew the team to this business. When Di Pisa’s father passed away, she helped her mother handle his financial matters. At the time, Di Pisa was working for a credit rating company and had graduated from college with a degree in economics. She realized she wanted to work directly with people, using her knowledge and training to help them in the way she helped her mother.

This connection to their work is what fuels all three team members. The job is more than just clocking in at the office. It’s about being able to help their clients live a better life. And when clients are searching for a financial professional, understanding their “why” can be just as important as understanding the financial goals they give you. “None of us want short-term relationships with our clients. We’d rather have long-term relationships with clients who can get to know us as we get to know them and their families,” Hagisufi says.

While a personal decision, clients may find that the right financial advisor or financial planner for them is a part of a team. And financial professionals may find that a team mentality is what they need to continue to bring passion and purpose to their jobs every day.
