If you're a horror fan – particularly of horror-genre video games – then this will be music to your ears.

The team behind last year's lockdown horror movie Host have reunited to create a terrifying horror video game with a major twist: this game is designed to be played in real time, at a specific time.

Host's executive producer and writer Jed Shepherd has revealed on Twitter that Ghosts is on the way next year and it has some impressive credentials, with creature design being completed by Jim Henson's Creature Shop (the company behind The Muppets).

The game is designed to be played at 10pm every night in your local timezone, although the owner of Limited Run Games, which is releasing Ghosts, has confirmed that you will still be able to play at other times.

"Just to clarify there is another game mode you can unlock that has no restriction. The original vision is the 10 PM mode though and much harder!" Douglas Bogart tweeted.

The game is currently the subject of a fundraising campaign, with the game's Kickstarter page revealing further details about Ghosts.

The player is playing a TV producer who is operating the outside broadcast van for a failing cable channel called FrighTV. Their flagship show is GHOSTS, which sees a team of ghost hunters exploring haunted locations around the country.

"As the cast explore the location, you not only need to worry about their safety, the noises you hear around the van and the strange neighbours, there's also the urban legend of The Long Lady," the synopsis continues.

"Sightings of The Long Lady on this very street have chilled the bones of residents for decades. She appears in times of tragedy, looking through the windows of houses on the street. It's said that if you look directly at her face, you die."

With your 'show' being live, you will need to think on your feet while playing and react to every moment to keep your viewers interested.

"In front of you will be all of the camera feeds streaming from cameras installed in the most haunted location in London as well as heart rate monitors for the cast," the synopsis continues. "What gets sent to the LIVE feed is your choice and can affect the future of the show (and perhaps the safety of the cast).

"You need to keep the show entertaining and you will have various tricks to employ to help you 'spice up' the live show.

"You also have various documents, videos and audio files, collected throughout the years from this local community that you need to decipher to help understand the grave situation. Perhaps something you discover will stop the horrifying events from unfolding."

Ghosts will star Host actors Emma Louise Webb, Haley Bishop, Jemma Moore, Radina Drandova and Caroline Ward, who feature in the first trailer for the game shared by Shepherd on Twitter.

Ghosts is currently due for release in February 2022 on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac.
