Host Norwalk finishes fourth at SBC Lake shootout

Aug. 10—NORWALK — The host Norwalk High School boys golf team finished in fourth place out of seven teams on Tuesday at the SBC Lake Division shootout at Eagle Creek golf course.

New this season, all league teams will play each other at one site. For each team Norwalk beat on Tuesday, they earned one league point.

Columbian was low on Tuesday with a 155, followed by Bellevue (161) and Clyde (169). The Truckers were next with a 180, followed by Vermilion (184), Perkins (199) and Sandusky (N/A).

Bray Malson was again low for the Truckers with a 39. Bryan Sommers and Avery Scheel each fired 46s, while Ethan Brown added a 49. Spencer Shutt and Dylan Pigman each had 52s to round out the lineup.

Norwalk joins St. Paul, Willard and New London among area teams on Wednesday in action at the Port Clinton Classic hosted at the Catawba Island Club course.

Edison fourth at first Bay shootout

HURON — The Chargers shot a 202 to finish behind Hopewell-Loudon (181), Danbury (183) and Tiffin Calvert (189) on Tuesday at the first-ever SBC Bay Division shootout.

The Chargers were paced by Madison Butler and Mallory Miester, as each finished with a 46. Meredith Unger shot a 50, followed by Anna Smith (60) and Jaylah Weaver (76).

For Willard (255), Lauryn Stover shot a 54 and was followed by Electa McKelvey (65), Emma Whitright (66) and Elizabeth Newman (70). Reese Bedingfield (75) and Araceli Obando (83) rounded out the lineup.

TENNIS

Clyde 3, Willard 2

WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes fell to 1-1 with Tuesday's non-league loss to the visiting Fliers.

Earning the two wins for the Flashes was Naomi Schag at first singles and Madelyn Shaarda at third singles. Schag defeated Curstin Hackenberg (6-3, 6-4) and Shaarda topped Claire Timmons (3-6, 6-3, 10-8).

Macey Robinson fell to Becca Clapp at second singles (6-2, 6-1). At first doubles, Moriah Slone and Belle VanZoest dropped two close sets to Grace Murphy and Marin Garnertsfelder, 7-6 (2) and 7-6 (3). At second doubles, Rebecca Honaker and Emmy Danhoff fell to Lexi Mahler and Elise Miller (6-2, 6-3).

Willard opened the season with a 5-0 win over Galion on Aug. 5.

In the victory, Schag and Macey Robinson won by identical sweeps (6-0, 6-0). Shaarda won (6-2, 6-0) at third singles, while Slone and Van Zoest along with Honaker and Danhoff also posted identical scores in their victories (6-1, 6-0).
