Horse Creek Academy a finalist in Legacy of Play contest

Oct. 4—Horse Creek Academy is a finalist in the Legacy of Play contest.

When voting ended on Sept. 30, the charter school finished in second place. That means they move on to the next round, said Sarah Morris, the assessment and community relations director at HCA.

"It was amazing," Morris said of being a finalist. "The community support was really amazing and humbling, and we really think that show of support, coupled with our fundraising efforts, will make this playground a reality."

After announcing the finalists, the next round involves Kiwanis International and Landscape Structures selecting a winner from the top 10 finalists. The winner will be announced Oct. 13.

"They'll announce the grand prize winner and an alternate, so if the grand prize winner can't fulfill some of the requirements it will go to the alternate," Morris said.

The winner will be awarded $25,000 in playground equipment to be used toward a playground project.

If Horse Creek Academy wins, Morris said the $25,000 will go toward its playground renovation project, which includes making the playground more accessible to students with different needs.

Horse Creek Academy was nominated by the Kiwanis Club of Aiken. To find out more about Horse Creek Academy's project, visit www.kiwanis.org.
