Hopkinton's Steve Simoes, Hopedale's Joe Small set to be inducted into MBCA Hall of Fame

On Feb. 5, four people will be inducted into the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association (MBCA) Hall of Fame.

At Four Points by Sheraton in Wakefield, John Kearney, Bill Lawrence, Steve Simoes and Joe Small will join the prestigious group of Hall of Fame members. The MBCA Hall of Fame was established in 1969.

The reception will start at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a banquet at 6:30 p.m. Tickets to the Hall of Fame ceremony can be purchased online. The dinner and event is $50 per person.

Kearney (Bridgewater-Raynham) and Simoes (Hopkinton) are still coaching high school baseball in Massachusetts. Small retired from coaching at Hopedale in 2013 and Lawrence retired from coaching at Middleboro in 2018 and died from cancer in 2020. He is a posthumous inductee.

Across 20 seasons, Simoes has 270 wins and his team's have made four Division 2 state championship game appearances. Over 24 seasons, Small had 330 wins and made seven sectional final appearances.
