Homeless man fatally struck by two vehicles on Highway 99 in south Sacramento, CHP says

A homeless man was killed Thursday evening after being struck by two vehicles while attempting to walk across Highway 99 in south Sacramento, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Officers responded shortly before 7 p.m. to southbound Highway 99 south of Calvine Road, where they located a pedestrian in the roadway with “traumatic fatal injuries,” the CHP’s South Sacramento office said in a news release.

Investigators determined the man entered southbound lanes after crossing the northbound side of the highway. He was then struck in southbound traffic by a 2016 Honda and 2016 Chrysler, according to the news release.

The two motorists stopped at the scene; neither was arrested, according to the CHP.

The pedestrian was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 53-year-old Amarjit Singh Sanghera, of Elk Grove.

CHP officials described Sanghera as homeless, and said he was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash.
