$10,000 reward offered for NC Home Depot thief who fatally injured worker, police say

A reward of up to $10,000 was announced Friday to help catch a man accused of assaulting an elderly Home Depot employee last fall while trying to flee the store with stolen power washers.

Gary Rasor, 83, died Nov. 30 from complications from injuries he suffered in the Oct. 18 incident at the home improvement store at 625 Hampton Pointe Blvd. in Hillsborough.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect fleeing with a shopping cart filled with three stolen pressure washers.

The surveillance footage was posted to the Hillsborough Police Department’s Facebook page and caused a stir among people on social media angered by the incident.

Rasor stepped out in front of the man in the outdoor garden center of the store as the man fled. The man appears to push Rasor to the concrete floor and keeps going, the footage shows.

Rasor was hospitalized with several broken bones.

The suspect fled in a white, four-door Hyundai Sonata with a North Carolina temporary tag obscured from witnesses. Police have not been able to provide a full description of the suspect.
