Home and Away star Patrick O'Connor says Karen story plans changed

Home and Away Patrick O'Connor has explained how plans changed for the return of his on-screen mother Karen (Georgia Adamson) in recent years.
Speaking to Inside Soap, Patrick, who plays Dean Thompson, said Karen was supposed to come back in 2021.
"They planned on having Karen back last year, but it was still a surprise!" he said.
He explained that Georgia was in a different state in Australia, and because of restrictions imposed by the pandemic the actress couldn't get to Sydney to shoot her scenes.

"I was more upset that we couldn't do it in 2020," he went on. "But I'm so glad we got her back. Everyone knows Karen is such a good character!"
He also revealed how his on-screen mother will finally meet her grandson in upcoming episodes. When asked about the possibility of the union, he admitted meeting Jai can "only be a good thing".
"Initially, Dean keeps up the deal with Amber to keep his mum away from Jai," which leaves Karen devastated.
He continued: "However, there's a nice twist and Dean gives in — he realises Karen seeing Jai can only be a good thing."

Elsewhere in the interview, Patrick spoke about his character's relationship with Ziggy. When it was suggested the pair are getting back on track, he said: "I love it!" before adding: "One minute they're fine and then there's another curveball."
He shared that upcoming scenes "tease than Dean is still a River Boy at heart, and how it might be an issue."
Karen's return, which was revealed in February this year, threw Dean into a frenzy — as there is a lot about his life that he is yet to tell her.
Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
