Home and Away cast heap praise on Emily Weir after Mac's downward spiral

Home and Away cast members have heaped praise on Emily Weir following her character Mackenzie Booth's downward spiral.

The Summer Bay resident has been having a tough time since being dumped by boyfriend Ari Parata (Rob Kipa-Williams), only to discover she was pregnant and going on to lose the baby after experiencing an ectopic pregnancy.

Having recently kissed her best friend Ziggy's boyfriend Tane Parata (Ethan Browne), and with her downward spiral set to continue, Emily's co-stars have paid tribute to her for her portrayal of the character.

Posting to Instagram on Thursday (June 3), Roo Stewart actress Georgie Parker wrote: "I got to hang with the divine, funny, generous, energetic, hard working @weir.emily today.

"I know her character Mack's going through a rough time, but here's a timely reminder that it's all make believe. She's a good egg, our Em."

Replying in the comments were fellow Home and Away stars Patrick O'Connor and Sam Frost.

"She's the best," Patrick said, as Sam added: "We love you Em. You're doing an outstanding job!! Proud of you."

Speaking previously about the tough storyline, Emily told Digital Spy: "There's a pile-on of grief.

"Everything was hunky-dory and then her boyfriend left, then she found out she was pregnant, then her boyfriend ended up in a coma, then he was back with his ex, then she loses her baby.

"So there's just all these catastrophic events that happen and the release from that pressure cooker bursts. She really goes into a downward spiral in which she self-destructs, pushes everyone close to her away and she really severs ties with many important relationships in her life because she doesn't feel worthy and is in so much pain."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
