It's almost Christmas, which means there's one film firmly lined up on our watchlist: Home Alone.

32 years after the festive movie was first made, it's still a universal fan favourite (and with good reason, tbh). However, even if you thought you knew everything there is to know about Home Alone, think again - as viewers have come up with a pretty chilling character theory.

One prominent fan theory shared on Reddit claims that Home Alone's lead character, eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, actually grows up to become another famous film character: the Saw franchise's main antagonist, Jigsaw (aka John Kramer).

Viewers have been comparing Kevin's series of violent booby traps in Home Alone to Jigsaw's torture techniques in Saw, and they reckon Home Alone could serve as an almost origin story for Jigsaw.

One theory shared on Reddit reads, "Kevin McCallister is Jigsaw from Saw. Think about it. They both punish criminals, have strained relationships with their families and devise insidious death traps to maim and kill all of the people they lure to their location. Plus, we know they both live in America."

Others have agreed, with one fan writing in another thread, "Kevin grew up to be the Jigsaw Killer," while another speculated, "Maybe the Home Alone movies are a prequel to Saw?"

"For me it's totally plausible," wrote a fourth Reddit user. "Kevin = Jigsaw. Both make intricate traps, both are homicidal, both have anger issues. The bear trap from Saw looks like the furnace in Kevin's basement. Jigsaw has a room that looks like Kevin's basement. Jigsaw has a furnace trap playing off of Kevin's fear. [They] look similar."

Plus, it turns out even the co-creator of the Saw franchise, James Wan, has heard about the theory - and he's on board.

He previously told the Huffington Post, "It’s amazing. I should’ve known all along that Macaulay Culkin would grow up to be John Kramer."

Wan added, "I think it’s awesome. I’m very flattered that people take the time to have fun with all these fan theories. I think that’s why I make these movies. I want the fans out there to have fun with them."

Well, that's us watching Home Alone from a *slightly* different angle this Christmas, then.
