Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson has mentioned that she would be open-minded about returning to Coronation Street at some point.

Nikki currently plays Maxine Minniver in the Cheshire soap and has been a regular character on the show since 2012.

Previously, Nikki played the role of Candice Stowe on Coronation Street between 1999 and 2005.

She recently teased her Instagram followers and said that she wouldn't rule out returning to the cobbles in the future.

During a question and answers segment on her Instagram stories, a fan asked Nikki a question about her former soap role writing: "Would you ever go back to Coronation Street as Candice?"

"I am so happy at Hollyoaks so I'll be there for the foreseeable... but never say never," Nikki responded.

Candice was first introduced to the street as Sarah Platt's best friend after a breakdown in her home life. Sarah's grandmother Audrey Roberts took pity on Candice and let her move into the flat above her hair salon, after which Candice joined Audrey's team as a trainee hairdresser.

Last year, Nikki made an emotional return to Coronation Street. After 15 years away from the set, she joined Sue Nicholls and Tracy Shaw for a special ITV episode that celebrated 40 years of Audrey Roberts' character.

Speaking to the Daily Star about her brief return to the cobbles, Candice said: "It was so much fun to go back to Corrie.

"It was wonderful to go for the day and see some people that I used to work with on and off camera.

"A lot of people I used to work with are still there and it was really nice to bump into them."

Hollyoaks will start airing five new episodes per week again from Monday, January 18 - it will be air on weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
