Oct. 16—AJ Hofer ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns to lead Daniel Boone to a 35-0 win over Reading High in a Berks Football League Section 1 game Friday at Shirk Stadium.

The Blazers (2-1, 5-3) came out hot on their opening possession as Hofer got the ball nine consecutive times, capping the 60-yard drive with a 4-yard run on third-and-goal.

On its first possession, Reading High (0-1, 1-5) picked up two first downs after starting on its 20, but would punt after a delay-of-game penalty forced a third-and-15.

Daniel Boone continued to go to their running game, turning to J.T. Hogan as it advanced to a third-and-8 at the Red Knights 30 to close the first quarter.

Daniel Boone quarterback Dean Rotter opened the second quarter by finding tight end Draven Klick on a seam route for a TD to make it 14-0.

Reading took over with good field position on their 43 after a failed onside kick by Boone. Faced with another third-and-long, Red Knights quarterback Daryonel Fontanez was able to scramble from several blitzers and pick up 25 yards for a first down.

Despite the brief momentum, penalties started to hurt the Red Knights' chances as they would close out the night with 12 penalties for 75 yards.

On third-and-6 from Daniel Boone's 28, a false start pushed Reading back beyond 30 and forced Fontanez to face another third-and-long. This time heavy pressure forced him to hurry a throw deep down the sideline, where Jaxson Mace intercepted the pass for Daniel Boone.

The Blazers took over at their 20 after going backwards on unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

Reading High's penalty troubles followed them on the defensive side of the ball as they gave up three consecutive encroachment penalties to start the drive.

A 43-yard run by Hogan put the Blazers at the Reading High 13. On second down, Rotter connected with Klick for with 3:37 left for the duo's second touchdown of the night .

Down 21-0, Reading was unable to score before the half and went three-and-out on the opening drive of the second half. A short punt by Michael Odeyemi of Reading set Daniel Boone up for what would be the play of the night.

On first down from the Reading 11, Rotter evaded heavy pressure and threw a pass on the run to the corner of the end zone, where senior Alex Vassallo reeled in a one-handed catch for the touchdown, making it 28-0.

Although Reading was able to get some first downs in the second half, the offense was only able to make one red zone appearance, which resulted in a turnover on downs after four straight incomplete passes.

Hofer scored his second touchdown of the night off a draw from the Reading 1-yard line with 6:58 to go. Nate Millard's fifth extra point of the night capped the scoring at 35-0.

Boone was able to hold Reading to just 113 rushing yards and 93 passing yards and Xavier Coleman had a fumble recovery.

Rotter completed 6-of-7 passes for 100 yards and three touchdowns.
