Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra gives two performances in Christ Chapel
The Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra gave two weekend performances in Christ Chapel on Nov. 20-21. The orchestra, directed by Professor of Music James A. Holleman, performed Ravel’s Piano Concerto in D Major (for the Left Hand), arias by Mozart and Dvorak, Sibelius’s “Finlandia” and Respighi’s “Fountains of Rome.”
The concerts featured faculty soloist Brad Blackham, artist/teacher of music, who has performed at venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to the Barbican Center in London. Blackman joined the faculty in 2005.
The performances also featured soprano Emily Douglass, artist/teacher of music, who began teaching at Hillsdale College in 2017 and is recognized for her success in national and international vocal competitions.
Hillsdale’s orchestra is a full-instrumentation college symphony orchestra that performs an advanced standard repertoire. Any student with sufficient performing skill may become an orchestra member by audition or recommendation of the College’s music studio teachers. Performances often feature faculty, student, and guest soloists.
The orchestra’s next performance will be at 8 p.m. March 5 and 2 p.m. March 6 at Markel Auditorium in Hillsdale College Fine Arts Center. Admission is free, but ticket reservations are required. Email boxoffice@hillsdale.edu or call 517-607-2848 for further ticket information.
