High schools roundup: Ocala area teams advance in district soccer tournaments

The North Marion girls, Vanguard boys and Lake Weir boys advanced in their respective district soccer tournaments with victories on Thursday night.

The Trinity Catholic girls, West Port boys and Dunnellon boys were defeated in their tournament games.

Girls soccer

North Marion 3, Glen St. Mary Baker County 2: At BCHS, the fifth-seeded Colts (10-10) won in a shootout to advance to the District 3-4A semifinals on Monday at No. 1 seed Jacksonville Bishop Kenny (7-6-1).

Keystone Heights 5, Trinity Catholic 3: At KHHS, playing without leading scorer Taryn Reardon, the third-seeded Celtics (9-7-1) got two goals from Josie Leonard and one from Kaley Alava in the District 4-3A semifinal loss to the No. 2 seed.


Boys soccer

Vanguard 3, Inverness Citrus 1: At VHS, the third-seeded Knights (13-9-1) netted all three goals in the first half to advance past the No. 6 seed and into Tuesday’s District 5-5A semifinal at No. 2 seed Spring Hill Springstead (13-4-3).

Lake Weir 4, Leesburg 2: At LHS, the No. 5 seed Hurricanes (7-11) advanced past the fourth seed and into Tuesday’s District 5-4A semifinal at the top seed The Villages (9-2-1).

Lake Mary 1, West Port 0: At WPHS, the county champs and third-seeded Wolf Pack (12-3-1) gave up a first half goal and fell in the District 2-7A quarterfinals to the No. 6 seed.

Tavares 8, Dunnellon 0: At THS, the sixth-seeded Tigers (1-16) fell to the No. 3 seed in the District 5-4A semifinals.


Girls basketball

Belleview 65, St. John 11: At St. John, Laniya Johnson (27 points on 11-of-16 shooting, 5 steals) and Aaliyah Armbrister (8 points, 7 rebounds) lifted the Rattlers to victory in their regular-season finale.

BHS (15-5) will compete in the District 5-5A tournament next week. The Saints (0-16) will compete in the District 5-2A tournament next week.


Boys basketball

Keystone Heights 62, Belleview 58: At KHHS, the Rattlers were paced by Cori Johnson (35 points) and Elijah Hilbert (10 points). BHS (4-16) will visit Dunnellon on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Williston 55, North Marion 52: At WHS, the Colts (12-9) will visit Starke Bradford on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
