Notre Dame-West Burlington runs away with high school wrestling team title at WACO Invitational

WAYLAND — The third-ranked (Class 2A) Notre Dame-West Burlington wrestling team keeps rolling along.

The Nikes added another tournament championship on Tuesday, winning the snow-delayed Warrior Invitational at WACO High School and crowning five champions in the process.

The Nikes won the team title with 189 points. Mid-Prairie was second with 138 points, followed by New London (127), Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union (120 1/2), Wapello (107), WACO (103 1/2) and Mediapolis (79) in the 11-team tournament.

Winning championships for the Nikes were Carter West at 106 pounds), Blaine Frazier (132), Sam West (160), River Belger (170) and CJ Walrath (182). Isaiah Fenton (152) and Tate O'Shea (138) each finished second.

New London crowned a pair of champions in Marcel Lopez (126) and Dominic Lopez (152) and had a runner-u in Josh Glendening (182).

Columbus/W-MU's Lane Scorpil won the title at 120, while Ty Scorpil (113) and Russell Coil (285) each took second.

Wapello's Elijah Belzer won the crown at 145, while Zach Harbison was second at 120.

Mediapolis' Quinten Aney took first at 138, while Grady Gunn was the runner-up at 126.

WACO's Jonah Clark was the champion at 220, while Louden Huisenga was second at 145.
