HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Tri-Valley wins Halifax Tournament

Apr. 11—HALIFAX — Gianna Poletti had a six-hit day to power Tri-Valley to the championship of the Halifax Tournament on Saturday.

The Bulldogs outslugged Brandywine Heights 13-8 in the semifinal, then clubbed host Halifax 8-1 in the final.

Against the Bullets, Poletti went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Faith Colahan was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs for the Dawgs, who rapped out 13 hits.

In the final, Poletti went 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. Her two-run homer sparked a three-run fourth inning that gave Tri-Valley a 4-0 lead.

Emma Maurer took care of the pitching in the final, stopping Halifax on three hits. She struck out 10.

at Cardinal Classic

PINE GROVE — Shikellamy pushed a run across in the top of the seventh inning and held on to defeat Pine Grove 6-5 in the championship game of the Cardinal Classic.

Pine Grove advanced to the final with a 7-3 win over Lake-Lehman.

In the final, Blaire Balestrini went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI to lead the Braves.

Emily Fisher went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Cardinals. Alissa Dorsey, Bailley Dorson and Isabella Langkam added two hits apiece. Langham had a double and two RBIs.

In the semifinal win over Lake-Lehman, Lillian Barra went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Megan Wolfe was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs; Dorsey went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI; Fisher went 2-for-3 with two runs scored; and Makenzie Daubert was 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Wolfe's two-run single and Alera Aungst's RBI double keyed the Cardinals' five-run fourth inning that put them ahead to stay.

Heenan's leadoff blast preceded an unearned run that provided insurance for the Green Wave, who got two hits each from Heenan, Emily Krammes, Hannah Zimerofsky and Makenna Burke. Ryleigh Sinko had a double and Kyla Bernitsky hit an RBI single in the fourth that produced a 2-2 tie, which remained until Heenan's home run.

Helena Polinsky was the winning pitcher. She had seven strikeouts.

BLOOMSBURG — Williams Valley's non-league game at Bloomsburg was postponed. No make-up date has been announced.

Coach Ryan Underkoffler said the Vikings made the trip to Bloomsburg only to find out Bloomsburg has an artificial turf field. Bloomsburg officials would not allow Williams Valley to wear the metal cleats that most of the players have, Underkoffler added.

takes shutouts

SCRANTON — Posting a pair of shutouts on back-to-back days, Penn State Schuylkill got two one-hitters from pitcher Sierra Santarsiero and beat Penn State Scranton, 18-0 in three innings and 14-0 in five innings.

PSU-Schuylkill, which defeated PSU-Scranton by two 8-0 victories Friday at Island Park in Schuylkill Haven, collected 27 hits in Saturday's doubleheader. Melanie Torrales, Ashley Pentz, who doubled twice in the first game, and Meghan Stokes each had four hits in the two games. Pentz finished with five RBIs.
