HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Rockland boys hockey rallies from down three in third period to win

Down 5-2 and on the penalty kill heading into the third period of Saturday's game, it looked like the Rockland High boys hockey team was headed for a loss.

Then the Bulldogs struck for three goals to tie the game. And as time expired, Shane Kimball tallied the winning goal as Rockland stole a South Shore League game from Cohasset/Hull, 6-5.

In the win, Logan Murphy finished with five points. Jake Higgins added three points. Joey Salamone and Ben Romer each scored a goal apiece. Joey Dow made 25 saves.

Matt Mahoney, Luke Dunham, Hayden Manfredi, Robbie Casagrande and Shane Mulcahy scored in the loss.

BOYS HOCKEY

Oliver Ames 4, Taunton 3: Andrew Livingstone scored two goals to lead the Tigers to the win. Noah Isleib (first varsity goal) and Jack Corey had solo tallies. Brandon Burke made 30 saves.

Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 7, Upper Cape 1: John Whalen had two goals and two assists while his linemate Shane Willias had four points (goal, three assists) for the Hawks. Brady Gomes, Keagan Bunker, Matt English, and Danny Manning scored solo tallies. Nolan Sturdevant handed out three assists.

Hanover 6, Pembroke 2: Robbie Hanna had a hat trick to lead the Hawks to the win Mikey Munroe, Tyler MacDermott and Ben Lines scored the other Hanover goals. Brendan Abban and Dean Freeley scored in the loss for the Titans (3-4).

Plymouth North 1, Duxbury 1: Wyatt Glass scored a goalie with Duxbury's goalie pulled to tie the game up with 49 seconds remaining to salvage a tie. He tipped home a Brendan Bonner shot. Sam Mazanec made 13 saves for Duxbury.

Needham 2, Milton 1: Joe Pender scored the lone goal for the Wildcats.

Abington 5, East Bridgewater/West Bridgewater 2: Jake Quinn and Hunter Grafton each had two goals and an assist for the Green Wave.

Bishop Fenwick 2, Archbishop Williams 1: The Bishops lost the Catholic Central League game.

Marshfield 4, North Quincy 1: The Rams won the Patriot League game and received goals from four different players (Jack Croft, Will Doherty, Nick Souretis and Jake Hemingway). James Rogers scored in the loss while Aidan McGuinness stopped 37 shots.

Braintree 1, Wellesley 1: The Wamps (4-1-1, 3-0-1) earned a tie in the Bay State Battle as Garrett Coughlin scored.

Weymouth 5, Walpole 3: Ryan Kane scored two goals to lead the Wildcats.

Quincy 6, Plymouth South 0: Freshman Lincoln Hennessy scored two goals and junior Tyler Holmes had the shutouti n net.

Canton 2, Franklin 1: Tommy Phaneuf and Brian Middleton scored for the Bulldogs.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Norwood 3, Canton 0: The Bulldogs lost the non-league game

Barnstable 8, Marshfield 0: The Rams lost the non-league game.

Duxbury 9, Scituate 0: The Dragons picked up the Patriot League win.

Needham 2, Milton 0: Lila Chamoun allowed one goal on 42 shots in the loss.

Braintree 3, Wellesley 2 (OT): The Wamps won in overtime.

Norwell 3, East Bridgewater/West Bridgewater 1: The Clippers picked up the win. Meaghan Powers scored the goal for WEB.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Sharon 76, Oliver Ames 61: Zach Taglimonte (17 points) Cole Craffey (10) were the high scorers for the Tigers in defeat.

Needham 45, Milton 36: The Wildcats dropped the Bay State battle.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cohasset 65, Sandwich 29: Sara Cullinan scored a team-high 17 points while Laney Larsen stuffed the stat sheet (16 points, 10 rebounds, 6 steals) for the Skippers. Sarah Chenette (12 points) and Catherine Toomey (8) chipped in offensively while seniors Mia Froio and Lisel Nee led the way on defense.

WRESTLING

Whitman-Hanson Invitational: In the first 14-team field, the Panthers finished third in the tournament they hosted. King Philip won with Milton taking second. W-H freshman Charlie Lussier won the 106-pound title as he went 3-0 with three pins, including one in the final in 17 seconds. He improved to 15-0 on the season.Aidan Guiliani won the 132-pound title.

GYMNASTICS

Bridgewater-Raynham/West Bridgewater 141.45, Cohasset/Norwell 110.3: Junior Katie Russo starred for the winners as she posted a season-high all-around score of 37.05 and won the bars, beam and floor. Freshman Mia Witkus won the vault (9.3). Mia Balsamo and Sage Balsamo also had strong showings.

Pembroke/Silver Lake wins tri-meet: Pembroke/Silver Lake scored 133.5 points to edge Marshfield (131.4) and Plymouth (125.05) in a tri-meet. Plymouth's Brooke Reardon won the all-around (35.2) to beat out Marshfield's Annie Spencer (33.6) and Pembroke/Silver Lake's Lauren Canniff (32.6).

B-R has strong day: The Trojans picked up wins over Plymouth South (33-31), Beverly (51-24) and Marblehead/Swampscott (36-30) but lost a close match to North Attleboro (42-37). Brent von Magnus, Lance Pepe, Chris Hogg, Christian Curley, Nathan Leach and Dominic Silvia finished undefeated on the day.
