High school roundup: Cretin-Derham Hall tops North St. Paul in section football opener

Oct. 27—Cretin-Derham Hall 21, North St. Paul 6: Will Haider rushed for a 6-yard touchdown and went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season as the Raiders (3-6) moved into the Class 5A, Section 4 semifinals Saturday against Mahtomedi.

Haider was one of three Raiders to log a rushing touchdown, joining Luke Floysand and Durelle Hall.

William Schleicher hit D'marion Suttles for a 21-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter for the lone score for North St. Paul (2-7).

Como Park 38, Brooklyn Center 14: Santos Aguirre ran for four touchdowns to move Como Park (4-5) into Saturday's Class 4A, Section 4 semifinal at top-seeded Fridley at 1 p.m.

Jude Breen also hit Steven Rein for a 35-yard scoring strike for the Cougars.

Academy Force 36, Johnson 14: The Peyton Gremmels show continued, with the senior wide receiver hauling in two more touchdown catches — of 30 and 18 yards — in the first quarter as Academy Force (4-5) rolled into the Class 4A, Section 3 semifinals Saturday against Simley.

Ethan Petersen's third touchdown pass of the night went to Max Hammes. Hammes scored on both sides of the ball, also returning an interception 17 yards for a score.

St. Agnes 47, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 0: St. Agnes moved into the Class 2A, Section 4 semifinals with a convincing first-round victory.

John Patros had three rushing touchdowns for the Aggies (8-1) in the first half alone, while Isaac Schmidt turned a couple of fumble recoveries into scores.

BOYS SOCCER

Mahtomedi 2, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 1: Lucas Yee Yick cleaned up a loose ball in front of the net in the second overtime to send the Zephyrs into the Class 2A state semifinals.

Yassin Hussein scored for Mahtomedi in the first half, with Jordan Aultman providing Cloquet-Esko-Carlton's lone goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

Centennial 1, Wayzata 0, PKs: Centennial senior Ally Hamski buried the game-winning penalty kick into the upper-right hand corner to move the Cougars past Wayzata 3-2 in penalty kicks in the state quarters at Eden Prairie and into the Class 3A state semifinals.

Centennial and Wayzata remained scoreless through regulation and a pair of overtime periods.

Minnehaha Academy 9, Proctor 1: Berit Parten put on a dazzling scoring display in the Class A quarterfinals at Irondale, scoring five goals to go with three assists as the Redhawks rolled.

Greta Carlson added two goals, including Minnehaha Academy's first strike just two minutes into the game.
