High School Hockey Wrap: Cards edge Storm'N Sabres in OT

Mar. 9—WILLMAR — Madison Garberding's overtime goal helped the Willmar girls hockey team to a 6-5 victory over Sartell/Sauk Rapids on Monday night.

'It was Senior NIght and we got started a little slow," Willmar head coach Eric Setrum said. "The girls battled back hard.

"We got up by two with about five minutes to go and they pulled their goalie and got a couple of late ones. It was just a Central Lakes Conference battle. They never quit. I'm just glad they got it done."

Garberding scored at 4:45 of the extra period, getting assists from Bailey Olson and Kessa Mara for the victory.

Halle Mortenson made 33 saves for the win in goal for the Cardinals.

"Halle got some huge saves in overtime," Setrum said.

Willmar plays Fergus Falls at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the Willmar Civic Center Arena, then closes out the regular season with Alexandria on Saturday.

"It doesn't get easier," Setrum said. "Fergus will be tough.

"They've got a young squad, but they're really coming on in the end here. Then it's Alex on Saturday. We've got to keep playing hard."
