High School Golf Roundup: Willmar takes eighth in its first meet at Becker

Apr. 16—BECKER — Hitting the links for the first time in the 2021 season, the Willmar boys golf team took eighth in the 12-team Becker Invitational Thursday at Pebble Creek Golf Course.

Shooting a team score of 356, the Cardinals were led by Joey Wisocki's round of 81, good for 14th place. Nate Marthaler finished in a tie for 30th with 87.

BOLD took 12th with 386, with Drew Sagedahl carding a 90 for 44th place.

Detroit Lakes was the team champion with 306, beating Sartell by 10 strokes. The Lakers' Lukas Justesen was the medalist with a 70, beating Waconia's Gus Leivermann by two strokes.

LQPV Invitational

The Community Christian School boys opened the season with a 12-stroke victory at the Lac qui Parle Valley Invitational.

The Eagles shot a 166, led by Brett Reid's 38. He tied for second with Renville County West's Jaden Kolker. Medalist was MACCRAY's Gavin Husman, who had a 32.

MACCRAY took second with a 178, one stroke better than Dawson-Boyd (179). LQPV shot a 190.

In the girls' competition, host LQPV won with a 192. The Eagles were led by Sarah Halvorson's 42, which earned her medalist honors.

Dawson-Boyd shot a 208 and CCS had a 273.

The Blackjacks' Rachel Lund tied for third with a 50.
