High School Football: Week 6 Scoreboard
Three weeks ago, there were five undefeated high school football teams in the Monroe County Region and all five were recognized in the Associated Press state rankings.
But the marathon season is a constant test. And that test can take its toll.
Since then, one team has fallen from the ranks of the unbeaten and two have entirely dropped out of the state rankings.
Whiteford remains the Region's highest-ranked team. The 5-0 Bobcats hold the top spot in Division 8 and take on 1-4 Sand Creek tonight. Don't be fooled by the Aggies' record. Last week, Erie Mason coach Steve Bowers opined that Sand Creek was "better than their record showed," following the Eagles' gritty 20-14 win.
Speaking of Mason, the Eagles held strong at No. 11 in the state rankings in Division 7 despite improving their record to 5-0. Mason takes on Pioneer North Central of Ohio tonight and a win over a 4-2 opponent could certainly give Mason a bump in next week's ranking.
Gibraltar Carlson made another move up the ranking this week, going from No. 8 to No. 6 in in Division 3 (tied with Muskegon). The Marauders have a spotless 5-0 record and an impressive 200-to-31 point differential. Tonight should provide a good test. Southgate Anderson is 3-2 and capable of catching any team in the Downriver League off guard.
The two teams to drop out? Dundee and Airport.
Airport suffered its first loss of the season last week, 48-6, to New Boston Huron. So the Jets' tumble out of the poll at least makes some sense.
The same can't be said of Dundee.
The Vikings improved to 5-0 with a 9-6 win over Brooklyn Columbia Central. Despite the victory, Dundee dropped from No. 12 in the rankings to off the list entirely. Dundee would no doubt be ranked higher than ever if they can take down 5-0 Clinton tonight. The Red Wolves are No. 2 in Division 6.
We'll be keeping track of all of today's games involving Monroe County Region teams. Check back to this page often throughout the night to get the most up-to-date scores.
