HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Pirates set for showdown with KCD

Oct. 7—The Pirates (2-5) had an extra week off to heal up and prepare for a showdown with the program which has been their nemesis in recent years.

Berea Community it set to open district play on Friday against Kentucky Country Day (5-1). Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Louisville.

The Pirates and Bearcats have met twice in each of the past three seasons — including three times in the Class A Playoffs.

KCD won each of those games, out-scoring the Pirates by a combined margin of 257-44.

The Bearcats beat Berea, 57-22, last November.

The Pirates rolled to a 54-0 win over Jackson County in McKee on Sept. 23. Yamil Cruz had five touchdowns (four rushing, one on punt return), while Koty Roberts and Cameron Thompson also had rushing touchdowns.

Berea's defense allowed just 36 total yards and forced two turnovers.

The Bearcats pushed their winning streak to five games on Sept. 23 with a 29-14 victory over Southern.

They were also off last week.
