High School Boys Tennis: Litchfield wins two in St. Cloud

Apr. 19—ST. CLOUD — The Litchfield boys tennis team went 2-1 at the St. Cloud Tech tournament, beating St. Cloud Tech and Robbinsdale Armstrong while taking a loss to Rosemount.

The Dragons were 3-0 at the No. 3 singles spot, with Blake Aller going 2-0 and Braden Olson going 1-0 from that position. They were also 3-0 at No. 1 and 3 doubles. The duo of Tyler Pennertz and Brady Cannon were 2-0 at No. 3 doubles. Then at No. 1 doubles, Tyson Michels was 3-0 with three different partners: Alex Draeger; Braden Olson; and Max Caesar.

Litchfield is back on the road Tuesday for a Wright County Conference tilt with Orono.

Luverne 4, YME 3

Luverne earned victories at Nos. 2 and 4 singles and Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to edge host Yellow Medicine East on Saturday in Granite Falls.

Ean Clarke remained unbeaten for the Sting with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 super tiebreaker victory at No. 1 singles. Jackson Torgerson, also unbeaten for YME, won his No. 3 singles match 7-5, 6-3.

Yellow Medicine East swept all four singles points to edge Pipestone in Granite Falls.

The closest match of the dual came at No. 2 singles. Tyler Syring of YME beat Ryan Woodbury 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 10-1 to earn the key point.

"That match must have gone two-and-a-half hours," YME head coach Jeff Lalim said. "It was pretty exciting."

YME (3-1) is host to Montevideo on Tuesday.
