See who's running in the spring 2022 municipal elections in Northeast Louisiana

Candidates qualified for the March 26 Open Municipal Primary Election this week in several parishes across northeast Louisiana. Seats for mayor, chief of police and other local races are up for grabs, as are a handful of vacant councilman or alderman seats.

Some of the races to watch include the historic election of the West Monroe Board of Aldermen and the mayoral race in Oak Grove.

Following a redistricting plan in West Monroe mandated by the U.S. Justice Department, the city will likely elect its first-ever Black alderman.

Oak Grove Mayor Adam Holland announced his plans to not seek reelection in a Facebook post on Feb. 27, citing "today's polarized political landscape."

"I have decided that it is in my best interest mentally, physically and professionally to not seek reelection to the office of Mayor of Oak Grove in the 2022 Mayoral Election," Holland posted. "Instead I will concentrate developing my private businesses."

Deadline for those seeking to run to qualify for the March 26 election was 4:30 p.m. Friday.
