Helena Bonham Carter opens up on 'happy' new romance with toy boy Rye Dag Holmboe

Helena Bonham Carter has spoken about finding love again with toy boy Rye Dag Holmboe.

The 53-year-old actress - who split from longterm partner Tim Burton in 2014 - has been dating the 32-year-old writer for about a year.

Bonham Carter told Harpers Bazaar UK: "I’m very happy with someone else. It’s been a bit of unexpected magic in my life."

The Crown star was with Sweeney Todd director Burton, 61, for 13 years and they have two children Billy, 16, and Nell, 12. During their unconventional relationship they lived together in adjoining houses in London and Bonham Carter starred in seven of his films, starting with Planet Of The Apes in 2001, when they began dating.

Speaking of their break up she said: "You break up, you grieve, you get bored of grieving, and then you finally move on."

The King’s Speech star - who had her breakthrough role at the age of 19 in costume drama A Room With A View - also admitted she had feared getting older, but had been pleasantly suprised

She said: "When I turned 50, I worried it was downhill all the way. But it’s quite the opposite. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier or more fulfilled. This huge blooming of television means character-driven stories, so there’s a lot of choice and a lot of work. When I was young, you were considered 'older' over 30."

Bonham Carter added: "My interests are more diverse than pretending to be other people. We’re really lucky as women to be living now, because we’re allowed to do anything."

Bonham Carter and Burton announced their “amicable” split in December 2014. The Harry Potter actress previously dated Kenneth Branagh between 1994 and 1999.

Speaking about her break up from Burton in 2016 Bonham Carter said: “You go through massive grief - it is a death of a relationship, so it’s utterly bewildering. Your identity, everything, changes.

“Just saying: "I'm not myself at the moment, so be careful."

Burton is now rumoured to be dating French actress Eva Green, 39, who has appeared in several of his films.
