Heilman takes over leadership of water conservation district

Dec. 2—LIMA — The Allen Soil and Water Conservation District (ASWCD) started a new era Monday when Casey Heilman (Lauger) assumed her new role as District Administrator.

The University of Findlay graduate has been with ASWCD since starting as Community Outreach Coordinator in 2018. Heilman was later promoted to Stormwater Manager and the Assistant District Administrator. In her new role, she will manage the ASWCD's day-to-day operations and staff members.

Heilman aims to oversee steady growth and would like to promote awareness of the many services the water conservation district offers.

"I plan to develop more educational programming to help children and adults realize the importance of our natural resources," she said. "The ACSWD has always been one of the main voices for farmers and helps promote the importance of agriculture in our community. I am also looking forward to continuing our partnerships with the City of Lima, Allen County and our townships as we work together to protect our natural resources."

The District Administrator position became available when Gary Werling retired from the post with an effective date of Monday. Werling started as a part-time technician with ACSWD in 1978 and served as administrator since 2004.

The Allen Soil and Water Conservation District promotes the wise use, improvement and maintenance of the soil, water and other natural resources in Allen County. Programs and services of the District include resource management information and technical assistance with installing and maintaining a broad range of conservation practices.
