Heavy storms expected across Arizona through Thursday. Here's what to know

Lightning strikes as a monsoon thunderstorm dumps rain over south Phoenix on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

There is a chance of heavy storms through Thursday across Arizona, the National Weather Service said.

Light showers across the Valley on Tuesday morning set the stage for what could be an eventful few days.

"A few stronger storms later today and again Wednesday could produce locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds," the National Weather Service in Phoenix said on Twitter.

Much of metro Phoenix received less than a tenth of an inch in rainfall on Tuesday morning, but that is likely to change with heavy storms predicted to bring 1 to 2 inches of rain on Wednesday.

Temperatures in Phoenix were expected to linger in the low 90s until the storms pass on Friday when the high will be 99 degrees.

Counties across the state were advised to watch out for flash floods with warnings issued in Flagstaff for eastern Coconino County, the Navajo and Apache counties, as well as the Navajo and Hopi nations.

"Flash Flooding will be the main threat, but isolated severe thunderstorms are possible as well," the National Weather Service in Flagstaff said on Twitter.

Temperatures across Flagstaff will remain in the high 60s throughout the week with a high of 72 on Friday.

Southern Arizona counties such as Pima, Pinal, and Santa Cruz, were also advised to watch for flash flooding both later Tuesday and Wednesday.
