One thing that never goes out of style? Throwing shade at your former bandmate to millions of viewers on one of the most historic television shows still on the air.

November 16th's Saturday Night Live was hosted by none other than former One Direction frontman and star Harry Styles who shocked fans less than an hour before the show's opening by releasing his new single 'Watermelon Sugar' which he performed to close out the show.

During the episode's opening monologue, the heartthrob sat down at a piano set and began crooning to the crowd making jokes in between piano riffs.

Styles of course brought up One Direction, making the audience and viewers laugh in hysterics when he joked about the band potentially reuniting on the episode before swiftly shooting the notion down:

"I don't know if you heard or not but I'm not in a boy band anymore -- I'm in a man band now. I was in a band called One Direction. How crazy would it be if they were here tonight! Well, they're not."

But the witty banter quickly took a turn as Styles then proceeded to name the members of the former boy band:

"I love those guys, they're my brothers. Nial, Liam, Louis and," Styles paused for a moment, pretending to forget the last One Direction bandmate and then quickly smiled and said, "Ringo, Yeah that's it! Just so grateful Simon Cowell grew us in those test tubes."

Call it petty, call it throwing shade but Style's subtlety in his delivery of pretending to forget one particular band member's name said it all without having to say literally anything at all.

Styles was, of course, purposely omitting the name of former One Direction bandmate Zayn Malik who infamously claimed to not have had any sort of friendship with Styles in an interview with Us Weekly back in 2017 in regards to the boy band's 2016 breakup:

"To be honest, I never really spoke to Harry even when I was in the band. So I didn't really expect that much of a relationship with him when I left. And I haven't [had one], to be honest."

Looks like we can kiss that One Direction reunion goodbye!

But if Styles' new single is any indication of the music that's coming with his new album, it's safe to say we should be just fine.
