'American Horror Story' actor Harry Hains dies at 27

American Horror Story actor Harry Hains has died at the age of 27, following struggles with mental illness and drug addiction.

The actor’s mother – former Neighbours star Jane Badler - confirmed the news on Instagram, saying her “beautiful son” son passed away on 7 January.

“He was 27 and had the world at his feet,” she wrote, alongside a series of pictures of Hains.

“But sadly he struggled with mental illness and addiction.

“A brilliant spark shone bright too short a time... I will miss you Harry every day of my life.”

Badler, 66, did not reveal a cause of death.

Hains was born in Melbourne, Australia, but ended up in the US where he pursued modelling and acting.

As well as American Horror Story: Hotel, he appeared in series such as The OA and The Deleted. He was also a musician, performing under the name, ANTIBOY.

Last year in an interview with Girls By Boys magazine he indicated that he identified as gender fluid.

“If I had to pick a label it would be in the realm of gender fluid,” Hains said.

“I know that I am born male but I don’t think I represent what it means to be a man.

“I believe we should be whatever we want. It gets kind of confusing when we start labelling ourselves so I try to stay away from labels.”

Badler played Diana Marshall in Australian soap Neighbours and also had roles in television shows such as V, Falcon Crest and Mission: Impossible.
