New Harper Creek Athletic Director Melissa Feasel a 'great fit'

Since she has already been 'running the athletic office for years' behind the scenes, it made sense for Harper Creek to make it official and name Melissa Feasel as the athletic director on an interim basis for the upcoming school year.

Longtime Athletic Director Ed Greenman recently changed rolls to become the Harper Creek High School principal on an interim basis, leaving his office open. Feasel has been the secretary for the athletic director for 14 years, so it was an easy decision to put her in the role.

"Ed approached me in the summer and said he was thinking about the interim principal position and asked me if I would be interested in throwing my name in the hat as interim AD," Feasel said. "I was honored he thought of me and immediately accepted and I was beyond grateful for the possible opportunity.

"I attended my first league AD meeting last week and the joke amongst the other ADs was, 'Mel, you have been doing the job anyway ...' And there is definitely some truth to that. And Ed said that also."

Feasel, a Lakeview High graduate who played college volleyball at DePaul University, is confident the transition will be a smooth one.

"Informally, over the past few years, Ed and I had talked about if this was something I wanted to do long term," Feasel said. "So this is a great chance to see if this is something that will work for me and my family, doing it on the interim basis for this year. Being in the athletic office for 14 years, I know a lot about how the office runs. There is plenty more to learn, I know, but Ed is still in the building and I will be able to lean on him. That will make the transition easier and because I have such a great relationship with all of our coaches, I'm hoping this will all be seamless."

Greenman is excited that the athletic program he built up is in good hands.

"This just a great fit for that position. For 14 years, we have been a great team and I think she can take things to an even higher level and we will not miss a beat," Greenman said. "She is just an outstanding person. Really cares about kids.

"Even though she is a Lakeview girl, she definitely has a heart for Harper Creek. She has earned the respect of our coaches and is passionate about everything she does."
