What happened to Jahmyr Gibbs? Plus Eli Ricks injury update from Alabama football's Nick Saban

OXFORD, Miss. ― Alabama football running back Jahmyr Gibbs was not seen on the field for much of the second half.

He was on the sideline, but he was not part of the offense in the second half in the Crimson Tide's 30-24 win over Ole Miss on Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Nick Saban said postgame that Gibbs twisted his ankle.

Gibbs took six carries for three yards in his limited playing time for No. 9 Alabama (8-2, 5-2 SEC). He also caught one pass for five yards.

With Gibbs out, Jase McLellan served as the primary running back.

"Jase stepped up tonight and took advantage of it," Saban said.

He took 19 carries for 84 yards, churning out some tough yards as Alabama remained in a close game with the Rebels.

"He really ran hard in the game," Saban said. "Played physical."

McClellan had most of the carries, but Roydell Williams also received two. He finished with 13 yards.

Meanwhile, starting cornerback Eli Ricks also left the game but on the first play. He sustained a head injury, went to the medical tent then went to the locker room. Ricks did not return to the game.

"Eli Ricks is OK," Saban said. "His head is the issue. We haven't been able to test him from a concussion-protocol standpoint as of yet. But I saw him in the locker room. He's OK."

With Ricks out, Terrion Arnold returned to the starting lineup. He had been the starter until the Mississippi State game, then Ricks has started ever since. Arnold made a couple plays, but he also had some issues, giving up some significant gains through the air.
