Hank Goldberg, longtime sports handicapper and ESPN reporter, dies at age 82

Hank Goldberg, the longtime NFL reporter and handicapping expert on ESPN, died Monday at his home in Las Vegas, according to his family.

Goldberg, who turned 82 on Monday, had been undergoing treatment for chronic kidney disease in recent years, ESPN reported.

Goldberg, known as "Hammering Hank," started at ESPN in 1993 and appeared on NFL Countdown and ESPN Radio, and he also contributed to the network's horse racing coverage, particularly the Triple Crown races. He last appeared on ESPN in May, doing a phone interview from the Kentucky Derby.

Goldberg started his career in the 1970s as an assistant to famous handicapper Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder. He then became widely popular in Miami as a local radio and TV host before becoming a radio analyst for the Miami Dolphins.
