HALFTIME REPORT: Alabama survives rough first half, defense has issues to resolve
Alabama looks to continue the win streak over the Tennessee Volunteers, which has lasted well over a decade, but they must first play a more disciplined style of football.
At the half, the Crimson Tide leads 21-14, but at one point lost the lead and was down by seven for a few minutes.
Star quarterback Bryce Young has played a solid game with 20 completions on 24 attempts for 207 yards and a touchdown. He also added a rushing touchdown, which helped give Alabama the lead.
Alabama’s run game, headlined by Brian Robinson, has proven mildly effective, with Robinson accumulating 13 carries, 58 yards and a single touchdown.
John Metchie has taken over as the team’s top wide receiver for the game, a position that often goes back and forth between him and Ohio State transfer Jameson Williams. Metchie has totaled six receptions for 63 yards and a lone touchdown.
Williams has a had a unique first half that was highlighted by a fumble in Tennessee territory. Overall, he has 4 receptions for 44 yards.
The defense has limited the Volunteers’ ground game, holding three ball carriers to 19 yards on only 11 carries.
Hendon Hooker has completed 11 of 15 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
The Crimson Tide secondary has not looked as disciplined as they have this season, missing assignments and not being properly aligned, especially in the red zone.
Nick Saban will look to have his team set up for success in the second half, and needs to have them play the remaining two quarters of football with a want to win.
