HS Volleyball roundup: Abilene High turns away Clyde

Jadyn Hernandez and Allie Bennett combined for 25 kills and eight blocks to lead Abilene High past Clyde 25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 25-22 in a nondistrict volleyball match Tuesday at Eagle Gym.

Hernandez had a team-high 13 kills to go with six blocks and three aces. Bennett followed with 12 kills and two blocks. She also had 10 digs and two aces.

Alexis Dolton had a team-high 36 assists, while Kinzley Cantu had 25 digs to spark the Class 5A Lady Eagles (3-4).

Clyde was coming off a successful run at the Bev Ball Classic, where the 3A Lady Bulldogs took down three Class 5A schools in Lubbock Monterey, Fort Worth Brewer and Cooper. Holliday beat Clyde in the tournament semifinals, and the Boerne Champion beat the Lady Bulldogs in the third-place match.

AHS doesn’t play again until taking on Wichita Falls High at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a nondistrict match at Eagle Gym.

Midland Christian tops Lady Coogs

Midland Christian beat Cooper 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17 in a nondistrict match at Cougar Gym.

Skyla Stark, Marissa Chavez and Abigail Pena-Perez led Cooper (2-6) with six kills each. Karrigan Parrott had 12 assists, while Lune Finch, Jazlyn Hatcher and Chavez had 11 digs each. Pena-Perez led the Lady Cougars with three blocks. Tibbets had three aces.

Carley King led the Lady Mustangs (2-0) with 10 kills, while Camdyn Sears and Addi Tatsch had seven apiece. Ramsey Clark had 20 digs.

Cooper plays at the Haltom tournament beginning Friday.

Midland Legacy turns away Wylie

At Midland, Rayah Coy, Kendall Harrington and Sara Philley combined for 37 kills to guide Midland Legacy past Wylie 21-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-12 in a nondistrict match.

Coy led Legacy (6-4) with 14 kills, while Harrington had 13, and Philley had 10. Harrington had 23 digs and 19 assists. Philley had 10 of her team’s 18 blocks.

Aliyah Jowers and Wesley Ruff led Wylie with eight kills each. Hanna Hood had 12 assists and 11 digs. Kat Martinez had a team-high 21 digs. Indiah Maroney had four kills and three blocks.

Wylie (6-4) plays at the Granbury tournament starting Thursday.
