H.S. tennis: Stonington boys edge Fitch 4-3 in ECC D-I match

May 7—STONINGTON — Tucker Callahan and Chase Williams won in singles Thursday and the and Stonington High School boys' tennis team edged Fitch, 4-3, in Division I of the Eastern Connecticut Conference.

Conrad Tobiassen-Joshua Lord and Owen Grant-Peter Previty won in doubles for the Bears (6-1, 4-1). Andres Sarder and Tim Lynch won in singles for Fitch (5-2, 4-2).

In other boys' matches:

— Sujesh Kurumbail won No.1 singles as East Lyme defeated New London, 7-0, in ECC Div. I. Daniel Sapoznikov and Benjamin Tan also won in singles for the Vikings (8-0, 7-0), who have won 60 straight matches. New London is 2-4-1, 1-4-1.

— David Baukus, Brendan Duhamel and Jack Giurleo won singles matches in straight sets as Montville remained unbeaten with a 6-1 win over Lyman Memorial in ECC Division II. The Indians (5-0, 5-0) also picked up wins from the double teams of Jason Zhong-Jae Seung Kim and Aidan Meisliter-Adam Smith. Ryan Miller-Coen Laibrandt won at No. 1 doubles for Lyman (1-6, 1-4).

— Julian Mileski rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles as Ledyard defeated Waterford 5-2 in an ECC Division I match. Damion DePaul also won at singles for the Colonels (4-4, 4-3), who also picked up doubles wins from Ronan Allison-Ben Fieldsend and Sebastian Fieldsend-Noah Freeman. Ian Balfour and Mason Baez won singles matches for Waterford (2-6, 2-6).

Girls

— Maddie Hamm, Maddie Gonsalvez and Mia Lewendowski won the top three singles matches and Stonington defeated Fitch, 6-1, in ECC Div. I. The Bears are 6-1, 4-1. Fiona Kennedy won No.4 singles for Fitch (5-3, 4-3).

— Anna Slopak won No. 1 singles and Norwich Free Academy defeated Killingly, 7-0. Sarah Ericson, Paige Raposo and Emily Eggler also won in singles for NFA (5-2).

— Waterford swept the three doubles matches during a 6-1 win over Ledyard in an ECC Division I match played under the lights at Waterford. The teams of Jen LeBlanc-Michelle Lieu, Nitya Somineni-Nidhi Somineni and Maria Molina-Arfa Begum won for the Lancers (7-1, 7-1) as did singles players Sarah Hage, Autumn Brothers and Joyce, who won third set tiebreaker 12-10. Sarah Bailey won at No. 3 singles for the Colonels (2-6, 2-6).

— Caroline French, Mannat Kadian and Priya Whitley won their singles matches in straight sets in East Lyme's 6-1 win over New London in an ECC Division I match. The Vikings are 4-3, 3-3. Emily Fielding won the number one singles match for the Whalers (0-8, 0-7).
