H.S. roundup: Montville girls beat rival St. Bernard in ECC D-III track meet

May 6—MONTVILLE — Montville remained unbeaten in Eastern Connecticut Division III with an 81-60 girls' track and field victory over St. Bernard on Wednesday.

The Indians (3-1, 3-0) had a pair of double winners in in Maya Suarez and Sam Kuruchi. Suarez won the 1,600-meter race in 5 minutes, 44 seconds and the 3,200 in 12:21, while Kuruchi captured the long jump (14 feet) and 400 (1:07.8).

Montville's other wins came from Julia Beaupre in the 300 hurdles, Kelsey Chiasson in the high jump (4-4), Katelyn Plikus in the 100 hurdles (17.7) and Sage Gressly in the 800 (2:54).

Julie Brady won the 100 (13.0) and 200 (28.4) for the Saints (2-1, 1-1) while Lindsey Reilly added wins in the shot put (27-11) and discus (73-3).

In other meets:

— East Lyme remained unbeaten with a 98-51 win over Ledyard in an ECC Division I meet. Lauren Hinckley won the 100 (13.0) and 200 (27.6) for the Vikings (4-0, 3-0), who also picked up individual wins from Ashley Zelesky (100, 18.4), Kennedy Holsapple (1,600, 5:42.1), Margaret Dunne (400, 1:05.5), Danielle Zelesky (300 hurdles, 53.4), Brianna am Ende (800, 2:36.3), Grace Blackwood (high jump, 4-8), Sjodin Fedekovich (pole vault, 7-6) and Savannah Soleau (shot put, 33-1). Natalie Helme won the long jump (16-9.5) and triple jump (32-4) for the Colonels (1-3, 0-3).

— Akheena Parcak won the 400 (1:03.30) and Kmara Royster the 300 hurdles (52.88) during New London's 106-23 loss to Killingly in an ECC Division II meet. The Whalers are 0-4, 0-3.

Boys' track & field

— Martin Arvidson was a triple-winner as St. Bernard defeated Montville 93-37 in an ECC Division III meet. Arvidson captured the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump for the Saints (1-2, 1-1) while Josh Porterfield added wins in the 100-meter dash and high jump. Stephen Duhamel won the 1,600 for the Indians (1-3, 1-2) and was also part of the winning 4x400 relay team.

— Blake Harris and Noam Sokolovsky won two individual events apiece as East Lyme outlasted Ledyard 86-64 in an ECC Division I meet. Harris won the 110 hurdles (17.7) and 300 hurdles (46.3) for the Vikings (3-1, 2-1) while Sokolovsky earned victories in the 200 (24.4) and 400 (54.6). Luke Weirs won the long jump (19-1) and high jump (5-6) for the Colonels (1-3, 0-3) while Mason Bickham added wins in the shot put (38-3) and discus (83-6).

— Daniel Duperval swept the weight events during New London's 67-56 loss to Killingly in an ECC Division II meet. Duperval won the shot put (44-2), discus (114-4) and javelin (86-9) for the Whalers (1-3, 0-3) while Marquis White won the 110 hurdles (16.67) and 400 (52.63), Ali Harkness the 300 hurdles (48.44) and Mustafa Dannett the 200 (25.19).

H.S. golf

— Norwich Tech continued to roll with a 210-234 win over Kaynor Tech in a Connecticut Technical Conference match. Joshua James shot a 51 to lead Norwich Tech (5-1, 4-1) while Fletcher Balaro added a 52 and Jake Benjamin a 53.

Girls' lacrosse

— Lucy Fader had four goals and two assists to highlight Williams School's 16-9 win over Marianapolis Prep. Amaya Butler also scored four goals for the Blues (2-1) while Sarah Cole had a goal and three assists, Navia Ladd scored three goals, Ellie Fader scored twice and goalie Maria Angelini made eight saves.

Boys' lacrosse

— Williams built a 10-1 halftime lead and cruised to a 14-5 win over Marianapolis Prep. Cody Delaurentis had three goals and two assists for the unbeaten Blues (5-0) while Ben Xenelis added two goals and two assists, Max Sarwar had two goals and one assist, Brendan Li scored twice and Robbie Darling had a goal and three assists.

— Ryan Whaley had five goals and two assists, Wes Williamson scored five goals and Mason Gallo had four assists to highlight unbeaten East Lyme's 19-1 win over Ledyard/Griswold on Tuesday night. Matt Valakos added three goals and three assists for the Vikings (7-0) while Garisen Weise scored twice and Mason Senkow, Sean McCusker, Jake Tukey and David Stoddard each had a goal. Cameron Reynolds scored the lone goal for the Colonels (2-6).
