May 12—PUTNAM — East Lyme won a battle of Eastern Connecticut Conference divisional leaders and unbeatens with a 6.5-.5 boys' golf victory over Killingly on Tuesday afternoon at Connecticut National Golf Club.
Dan Singer, Matt Orefice and Logan Rolfe each shot 4-over-par scores of 39 to share medalist honors for the Vikings (8-0), who had a medal score of 159, while Maxo Caron added a 42 and Graeme Mundell at 53.
Ethan Lackner carded a 42 to lead Killingly (8-1).
In other matches:
— Gavin Arruda, Kieran Boscoe, Cameron Conway and Brady Sadowski won matches as Wheeler/Ledyard defeated New London 6-1 in an ECC Division I match at Stonington CC. Boscoe shot a 45 to lead the Lions (3-7, 3-6) while Zach Stock shot a 41 and was the medalist for New London (0-9, 0-8).
— Grasso Tech's Nathan Sylvestre carded a 43 to earn medalist honors and lift Grasso Tech to a 201-223 win over Kaynor Tech in a Connecticut Technical Conference match at Pequot Golf Club. Norman Maranda added a 45 and Nolan Blewitt a 47 for the Eagles (4-3, 4-3).
— Pat Flanagan fired a 41 to earn medalist honors as Old Lyme defeated Shoreline Conference rival Old Saybrook 190-205 at Black Hall Club. Gavin Porter added a 47 and Aden Wilson a 50 for the Wildcats (5-5, 5-5).
— Dan Driscoll pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10, including the final six batters, as Waterford downed Bacon Academy, 11-0, in an ECC Division I game that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule. Connor Rowe had three hits, including two doubles, with three runs and two RBI, Sean Salvador went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Driscoll went 3-for-3 with two runs and RBI for Waterford (10-0, 9-0), ranked fourth in the GameTimeCT/New Haven Register poll. Jack Novak doubled for the Bobcats (6-4, 6-4).
— Coginchaug beat Old Lyme, 7-3, in the Shoreline Conference. Tait Sawden went 2-for-3, including a double, with two RBI and a run for Old Lyme (4-9, 4-9) and Jesper Silberberg singled.
— Jaivon Velez had three hits and Johancy Baez drove in two runs as Grasso Tech beat Norwich Tech 8-7 in a CTC game on Monday. Winning pitcher Randy Vidal had two hits and scored twice and Tito Arias also scored twice for Grasso (4-4, 4-3). Joshua Hanks had three hits and drove in three runs for Norwich Tech (3-7, 3-3).
— Maddie Burrows led off the game with a home run, added another solo home run in the seventh inning and earned the save as unbeaten Waterford beat NFA, 7-4, in an ECC Division I game. Winning pitcher Angela Colonis had two hits, Tori Kiefer had two hits, including an RBI double, and Anna Donahue had two hits, including a double, for Waterford (12-0, 11-0), ranked second in the GameTimeCT/New Haven Register poll. Morgan Tainter had two hits, including a home run, Madison Waltke had three hits, including a double, and Leah Manke and Gemma Peterson each had two hits, including a double, for the Wildcats (3-7, 2-6).
— Victoria Gage struck out eight and went 2-for-3, including a two-run home run, with two RBI for Old Lyme in its 12-0 win over Morgan in a five-inning Shoreline Conference game. Grace Lathrop went 3-for-4, including a double, with three RBI and two runs, Paige Kolesnik went 2-for-3, including a two-run home run, with four RBI and Lauren Creagan went 2-for-3, including a double, with two RBI and two runs for the Wildcats (7-4, 7-4).
— Hannah Irons went 4-for-5, including a grand slam and two doubles, with five RBI and four runs as Plainfield downed St. Bernard, 22-6, in an ECC Division II game. Angelina Tompkins went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run for the Saints (1-11, 1-11) and Ariana Guinassi had a single, two RBI and a run.
Boys' track and field
— Gabe Lavoie set a school record in the 100-meter dash (11.06 second) as Old Lyme defeated Hale-Ray 113-37 in the Shoreline Conference. Lavoie also won the long jump (17 feet, 8 inches) for the Wildcats (2-2), who also picked up two wins each from Dylan Sheehan in the shot put (37-2) and discus (100-0) and Drew St. Louis in the javelin (110-0) and pole vault (7-0). Old Lyme also picked up wins from Aidan Powers in the 1,600 (5:21.), Ryan Clark in the 400 (1:06.3), Ben Roth in the 800 (2:37), Aidan Kerrigan in the 3,200 (12:04) and Eli Ryan in the triple jump (29-1).
Girls' track and field
— Emmerson Kaye (13.11 seconds), Bianca DaSilva and Maggie Rommel swept the 100 dash to highlight Old Lyme's 88-57 over Hale-Ray in the Shoreline Conference. Kay and DaSilva also teamed up with Calla Gilson and Emily DeRoehn to win the 4x100 relay (55.2) while DeRoehn added a win in the 400 (1:06.4) while joining Kelly Walsh, Lyla Powers and Alyssa Spooner on the winning 4x400 relay (4:39). The Wildcats (2-2, 2-2) also picked up individual wins from Lauren Presti in the 100 hurdles (22.40), Powers in the 1,600 (5:53), Maddy Morgado in the 800 (2:32), DaSilva in the 200 (28.64) and Bella Hine in the discus (61-1).
— Shoreline Conference regular-season champion Old Lyme improved to a 13-0 with a 6-1 victory over Old Saybrook. The Wildcats' Abigail Sicuranza, Callie Bass, Sam Tan and Livie Bass swept the singles while doubles teams of Sophia Ortoleva-Elaina Morosky and Aggie Hunt-Beatrice Hunt were also victorious.
