Indiana high school football roundup: LaVille pours it on over Bremen

The LaVille football team wasted no time Friday night.

The host Lancers scored on their first play of the game en route to a 42-0 win over Bremen.

Paul DeWitt, who ran wild for the hosts, broke free for a 60-yard touchdown run on the game's opening play. DeWitt rolled up 237 yards on just 11 carries and scored twice for the Lancers.

LaVille, which beat Bremen 14-12 last season, racked up a 42-0 lead at halftime and cruised from there.

Quarterback Lucas Plummer was efficient with a 5-of-7 passing performance with four touchdown tosses for the Lancers. Owen Smith hauled in a pair of touchdown catches for LaVille.

The duo of Ross Wagoner and Noah Richhart each also had a touchdown reception for the Lancers.

LaVille opens league play at Triton and Bremen hosts Washington in a conference game next Friday night.

Triton 49, South Central 0

Anthony Schuh made the most of his eight carries Friday night.

The Triton junior running back raced for 219 yards to pace the Trojans past South Central 49-0.

Schuh scored four times as Triton ran out to a 42-0 halftime lead. Schuh scored on runs of seven, 48, 49 and 78 yards in the first half.

Junior quarterback Cole Shively also ran for two scores for the Trojans, who beat South Central 18-16 last season.

Triton rushed for 344 yards in the win and outgained the hosts 381-52 in total yards.

Triton hosts LaVille (1-0) and South Central plays at Culver next Friday night.

Osceola Grace 54, Clay 6

The Eagles flew high on Clay Field.

Standout tailback Sam Harner ran for two scores and 101 yards to pace Grace past Clay. Senior Harner, who led his team to a 41-0 halftime lead, did not play in the second half.

Gavin Stamper made his mark for Grace with a pair of interceptions, one returned for a touchdown. He also added a kickoff return for a score.

Sophomore quarterback Eli Cocanower was 6-of-9 passing for 113 yards and three touchdowns. The trio of Jackson Colvin, Jude Reynolds and Harrison Colvin each had a touchdown catch for the Eagles.

Ryan Shay ran for another score for Grace. Tonija Wingo paced the winning defense with 14 tackles.

Grace finished 8-3 last season, including a 42-7 win over Clay. The Colonials were 0-9 in 2021.

Osceola Grace hosts Hammond Bishop Noll on Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. Clay plays at Twin Lakes next Friday night.

Saint Joseph 36, Lakeland 17

Ben Downey's return to the sidelines was a triumphant one.

Downey, back for his second stint in charge of the Indians, watched his team pick up a win at Lakeland.

Saint Joseph, which beat Lakeland 27-0 a season ago, built an early 22-0 lead en route to the win.

Quarterback Alex Ortiz tossed three touchdown passes, including a pair in the opening quarter, to spark the Indians. Ortiz connected with Hayden Miller on a 77-yard scoring strike and with Deah McCullough on a 30-yarder in the opening frame.

Brady Farrell and Joe Piontek each had a touchdown run for the Indians.

Saint Joseph plays at Mishawaka next Friday night. Lakeland travels to Churubusco.

The host Tigers upended the Class 5A No. 3-ranked Wolves in a big fashion.

German Flores-Ortega rushed for 184 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Tiger rout. Flores-Ortega had scoring runs of seven, 54 and 59 yards among his 16 carries.

Tucker Curtis added a 55-yard touchdown run for Warsaw, which lost 35-16 to City last season.

Derrick Coleman had the lone touchdown for the Wolves.

Warsaw hosts Chesterton and City entertains Lafayette Jeff next Friday night.

Marshall Kmiecik threw for 174 yards and a touchdown, adding 11 carries for 88 yards and a score in New Prairie’s home rout of La Porte.

Dallas Ryans, who had seven catches for 123 yards, snagged a six-yard touchdown in the final minute of the second quarter as the Cougars took a 28-0 lead into halftime.

Star tailback Noah Mungia ran 24 times for 111 yards and two scores for the Cougars. Brice Vanbrauene had two interceptions.

New Prairie, which finished 11-3 and lost in the Class 4A semistate game in 2021, hosts Lowell next Friday night. LaPorte plays at Goshen.

Gates hauled in scoring strikes of 66 yards from Brady Krueper and 33 yards from Quinn Rost as Elkhart crushed Concord.

The Falcons rallied to earn a huge overtime win at Goshen.

Fairfield stopped the hosts on a two-point conversion attempt on a running play to seal the victory.

Goshen led 14-0 at halftime before coach Matt Thacker's squad rallied for the win.

Carter Kitson was the hero for Fairfield, which lost 21-10 to Goshen last season. Kitson scored on a one-yard run and added a two-point conversion run in overtime to put his team ahead for good.

Kitson also scored on a one-yard run with 9:10 left in regulation play to tie the game.

Fairfield plays at South Bend Adams and Goshen hosts New Prairie next Friday night.

Glenn 28, Boone Grove 14

The John Barron era in Walkerton kicked off with a road win.

Barron, the former longtime coach at Plymouth, led his new team to a victory in its season debut.

Aiden Johnson fired a pair of touchdown passes to pace the Falcons. Johnson connected with Chase Miller on a 76-yard score and with Nate Taylor on a 24-yard TD toss.

Ty'Ronn Larkin had a big night with a touchdown run and a pair of interceptions for Glenn. The Falcons came up with five turnovers, including four interceptions, in the win.

Glenn plays at South Bend Riley next Friday night.
