H.S. cross country: NFA girls edge Fitch 27-28 in ECC Div. I race

Sep. 22—GROTON — Eliana Duclos won the meet in 17 minutes, 50 seconds as Norwich Free Academy edged Fitch 27-28 in an Eastern Connecticutd Conference girls' cross country meet on Tuesday at Haley Farms State Park.

The Wildcats (5-1, 1-0) also defeated St. Bernard 19-35 and Stonington 15-50 in the quad meet.

Silvia Chen was second overall as Fitch defeated St. Bernard 20-35 and Stonington 15-50. The Falcons are 5-1, 0-1.

Lilian Turner was fifth overall for the Saints (3-1) who defeated Stonington 15-50.

In other meets:0

— Abby Maynard, Madison LaForte and Natalie Lombardi finished in the top five as Waterford defeated Bacon Academy 25-34 in ECC Division II. The Lancers are 3-1, 2-0. Jordan Malloy was the overall winner for Bacon (1-3, 0-2).

— Clare Inyang was the overall winner as Ledyard defeated Killingly (15-50 in ECC Div. II) and Plainfield (15-50). Avery Widlicka, Victoria Schweitzer, Josephine Withbore and Sam Doran finished in the top five for the unbeaten Colonels (5-0, 2-0).

— Linsey Arends of Woodstock Academy set Montville's 2.58-mile course record in 16:19 as the Centaurs defeated Montville (19-42) and Lyman Memorial (15-50). Maya Suarez was second overall for the Indians (2-3, 1-0) who defeated Lyman Memorial 15-50 in ECC Div. III.

— Wheeler opened its season with a 15-50 win over Tourtellotte in an ECC Division IV meet. Lucy Smith of Wheeler won the race in 24:49 and teammate Carissa Browne was second in 25:39.

Boys

— Enzo Guarnieri, Luke Joseph and Theodore Bartlett finished in the top five to lead Waterford past Bacon Academy 22-33 in ECC Division II. The Lancers are 3-1, 2-0. Ryan Moores was the overall winner for Bacon (2-2, 1-1).

— Hayden Baber finished second overall and Jack Hill placed third as Ledyard edged Plainfield 26-27. The Colonels (5-2) also defeated Killingly, Putnam and New London 15-50.

— Wheeler beat Tourtellotte 15-50 in an ECC Division IV meet. Wheeler's Cameron Conway won the race in 20:39 and Trevor Scarchilli was second (20:44) for Wheeler (1-1, 1-1).
