North Sewickley Township World War II veteran Guy Prestia recently received a letter from President Joe Biden, recognizing his recent 100th birthday.

NORTH SEWICKLEY TWP. – When Guy Prestia opened up his mailbox and saw a “big” letter from Washington, D.C., he thought it was a political advertisement.

However, when he opened it, to his surprise, it was a letter addressed to him from President Joe Biden, recognizing his recent 100th birthday.

The full letter, dated April 26, states:

Dear Mr. Prestia,

It is a privilege to wish you a happy 100th birthday, and to thank you for your inspiring service in the United States Army.

The selflessness of veterans like you who answered our nation’s call to serve during World War II defines the true character of our Greatest Generation. We remain forever indebted to all those who have worn the uniform and have sacrificed beyond measure for our cherished freedom.

Though birthday celebrations may look different during these difficult times, I hope you take pride in all you have accomplished throughout your life. On behalf of a grateful nation, I send my best wished to you on this special day.

Sincerely,

Joe Biden

Prestia turned 100 years old on April 26. He formally thanked the Ellwood City Area Historical Society for its birthday celebration for him, though he noted by the time he got to the society’s celebration, he had already attended different parties from other organizations he was a part of, so he was “caked out.”

He jokingly said, “Nobody makes pies anymore.”
