Guilford to celebrate top teachers, principals

Sep. 16—GUILFORD COUNTY — Several High Point educators are among those in the running for this year's Guilford County Schools annual principal and teacher of the year awards.

The Celebration of Excellence event is set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Grimsley High School. In addition to announcing the awards, the program will include a reception, spirit parade and music. This event is open to Guilford County Schools employees.

The winners of the respective categories will win a monetary prize. The principal and teacher of the year will move on to a regional competition as well.

Finalists for the awards are:

PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

—Trent Vernon — Jamestown Middle

—KaTrinka Brown — Jackson Middle

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

—Charnelle Shephard — Penn-Griffin School for the Arts

—Felicia Bowser — Mendenhall Middle

—Candace Hudson — Page High

—Whitney Sluder — Weaver Academy

—Chase Arrington — Western Middle

TEACHER OF THE YEAR

—Tom Anderson — Christine Joyner-Greene Education Center

—Marcia Moyd-Williams — Gillespie Park Elementary

—Shanice Foye — Northeast High

—Leah Carper — Northern High

—Tyrelle Lee — Southeast Middle

—Melissa Mann — Western Middle

ROOKIE TEACHER OF THE YEAR

—Briana Davis — Southwest Elementary

—Betsey Altman — Welborn Middle

—Neha Muraly — Dudley High

—Minh McNicholas — Northwest Middle

Awards also will be presented to the Counselor of the Year and Mentor of the Year. All nominees in those categories this year are from schools outside of High Point.
