The Akron Community Foundation has approved $300,000 in capital grants to local nonprofit groups.

Every other year, the foundation offers the grants to nonprofits that seek funding to renovate or repair buildings or property, or to purchase equipment essential to deliver quality programming.

Grants awarded:Akron Community Foundation distributes nearly $2.5 million in quarterly grants

Grants will support 41 capital projects:

Akron Blind Center: $5,000 for safety and wellness improvements to the building and property, including driveway leveling, roof repair and the installation of audible emergency evacuation equipment.

Akron Children’s Museum: $10,000 to support the second phase of a capital expansion campaign.

Akron Marathon: $5,000 for safety, security and technology updates.

Akron Parks Collaborative: $5,000 to support the creation and installation of a Firestone Park splash pad.

Akron Urban League: $5,000 to support the creation of learning and meeting spaces.

Asian Services In Action (ASIA): $7,500 to support culturally and linguistically appropriate dental health services among Akron’s immigrant and refugee population.

Grants awarded:Burton D. Morgan Foundation awards $1.6 million in grants.

AxessPointe Community Health Centers: $7,500 to support the creation of a new health center in West Akron.

Battered Women’s Shelter: $5,000 for enhanced safety and security of its building.

The Blick Center: $5,000 for an accessible redesign of the building’s entryway.

Broken Chains Jail & Prison Ministry: $10,000 to support a three-year capital equipment improvements program.

Center for Applied Theatre and Active Culture (CATAC): $5,000 for investment in equipment upgrades that improve community outreach, experience and accessibility.

CORE Furniture Bank: $5,000 to support the purchase of a medium duty box truck.

Crown Point Ecology Center: $5,000 for the purchase of a tractor, essential for growing field food crops and maintaining a prairie habitat.

Funding the arts:Akron arts groups look toward more community engagement with help of Knight funding

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad: $5,000 to support improved ADA accessibility for passengers with mobility limitations.

Family Promise of Summit County: $7,500 to renovate one of Survive to Thrive’s first homes.

Freedom House for Women: $7,500 for New Journey Recovery Housing basement waterproofing.

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio: $7,500 for the construction of state-of-the-art STEM Center of Excellence at Camp Ledgewood, which will provide hands-on learning for students during day and overnight programs.

Grace House Akron: $10,000 to support the completion of construction on Grace House.

Habitat for Humanity of Summit County: $7,500 for a garage addition that will ensure ample space for vehicles and equipment.

Harmony House: $7,500 for construction of an emergency youth shelter.

Keep Akron Beautiful: $5,000 to replace a dump truck that will support the removal of litter in Akron.

Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance: $10,000 to create an office and small-business resource space for Kenmore Neighborhood Alliance at 1028 Kenmore Blvd.

Let’s Grow Akron Inc.: $7,500 for a walk-in cooler and outdoor kitchen area that will allow the storage of produce before transporting to local food pantries, farmers markets and community meals.

The Nightlight Cinema: $10,000 to support the expansion of the cinema in downtown Akron.

None Too Fragile: $7,500 to improve the safety and handicap accessibility of the theater.

North Hill Community Development Corp.: $5,000 to support upgrades to People’s Park, including concrete repairs, lighting upgrades and deck renovations.

Polsky funds:Knight Foundation gives UA $20 million to renovate and rename downtown Polsky Building

Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition: $7,500 to support the Akron Civic Commons 2.0 Summit Lake Park Project, which will provide accessible, equitable and welcoming parks, trails and open spaces along the towpath.

OPEN M: $10,000 to support critical safety enhancements at the organization’s office and warehouse facility.

The Peninsula Foundation: $10,000 to support an ADA accessible addition to G.A.R. Hall, including a pre-event space and two accessible restrooms.

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio: $10,000 to purchase more inclusive, extended weight exam tables and chairs, and other essential medical equipment at the Akron health center.

Regina Health Center: $7,500 to support the creation of a safe outdoor gathering space for senior residents to enjoy family visits, spiritual and educational programming and enrichment programs.

The Salvation Army of Summit County: $10,000 to replace buses for the Learning Zone preschool, enabling the organization to provide safe transportation of students.

Shelter Care Inc.: $10,000 for creation of a multipurpose room for family and group counseling sessions, psychoeducational group activities, team meetings and training.

South Street Ministries: $10,000 for the renovation of Restoration House, which will offer emergency and transitional reentry housing for women.

SWAG: $5,000 for the purchase of a replacement van, which provides transportation to students during the academic year and summer programming.

Truly Reaching You: $15,000 for renovations to the South Street warehouse, an employment training and workforce education hub.

Twinsburg Historical Society: $2,500 to maintain the integrity of the museum and adjacent parking lot.

Urban Vision: $7,500 to support installation of new and updated HVAC systems throughout the facility.

Victim Assistance Program: $7,500 to upgrade outdated technology for victim advocates.

The Well CDC: $5,000 for walk-in cold storage at the Akron Food Works kitchen. which will serve current members, attract new members and provide additional options for product distribution.

YEPAW: $5,000 to restore drumline, photography and computer equipment.
