Moment Greenpeace protesters are shoved from The Mall before Boris Johnson arrives at the Palace

Boris Johnson’s convoy was stopped by climate change protesters when he was on his way to meet the Queen before they were forcibly removed by police.

Greenpeace protesters dressed in red t-shirts held hands to create a human chain to stop Mr Johnson’s car from passing and tried to hand the new Prime Minister a letter about climate change.

Police then ran to the scene to remove the protesters so Mr Johnson’s car was able to pass.

The demonstrators also held a sign up to Mr Johnson’s car with the words “Climate Emergency” written on it.

The organisation tweeted: “We just tried to hand the incoming PM a crucial letter - it contains the answers to tackling the Climate Emergency. But will he act?”

Mr Johnson is expected to announce his cabinet later today, Philip Hammond has already quit as Chancellor and Jeremy Hunt has left his role as Foreign Secretary.

In a tweet today, Mr Hunt said: “I’ve been a cabinet minister for every hour my 3 gorgeous children have been alive. So whilst it may seem strange for someone who just tried to become PM i have decided now is the time for the biggest challenge of all - to be a good day.”

Mrs May clashed with Jeremy Corbyn in their last PMQs today where she suggested the Labour leader should take a leaf out of her book and quit her post.

Boris Johnson said he wanted to "change the country for the better" after he became the UK's new prime minister.

Speaking outside No 10, he said Brexit would happen on 31 October "no ifs, no buts", adding "the buck stops here".

The former London mayor said that anyone who doubted him are “wrong”.
