A Greenfield woman was found dead inside her home and the victim's husband has been taken into custody, police say

Police have taken a Greenfield woman's husband into custody after she was found dead inside her home Wednesday.

Greenfield Police were called to the home in the 4700 block of West Maple Leaf Circle, after an out-of-state relative asked police to perform a welfare check because the relative received information that the woman was dead.

Officers discovered the 50-year-old woman dead inside the home.

Later, police and the victim's husband, a 48-year-old man, engaged in a brief standoff in Franklin before the man was taken into custody.

"This was a domestic incident and there is no threat to the public," police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office.

If you or anyone you know may be the victim of domestic violence, Greenfield police refer you to the Sojourner Family Peace Center and the 24-hour domestic violence hotline at (414) 933-2722.
