Greece ready to ‘give away place in queue’ for Germany’s Marders

Bild’s source, a senior officer in the Greek military, told the newspaper that Greece's defence capability would not be impacted by a delay in the supply of Marders.

In September 2022 Greece officially announced it would supply Ukraine with Soviet-designed tanks in exchange for German's fighting vehicles Marder.

According to the Greek Minister of National Defence, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, the agreement is being implemented as planned, and Greece has transferred to Ukraine even more vehicles than promised. Twenty Greek light tanks have been already sent, while Athens has so far received only 14 Maders from Germany.

Nils Schmid, the spokesperson for foreign affairs in the German Bundestag, said on Jan. 6 that Germany plans to supply Kyiv with 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles.

UK newspaper the Guardian wrote that Berlin plans to do this as early as the first quarter of 2023.
