Greater Lafayette nonprofits hope Giving Tuesday draws attention to their efforts, needs

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Giving Tuesday is set to be in full swing with nonprofits and organizations such as the YWCA, West Lafayette School Corporation and the Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette, showcasing their missions.

Giving Tuesday – falling on Nov. 30 this year – is an annual, national event created to shift holiday shoppers' focus to donating to local nonprofits and organizations at least for this one day.

"Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good," Giving Tuesday's website states. "Giving Tuesday is a movement that unleashes the power of radical generosity around the world."

Civic Theatre recently reached out as part of Giving Tuesday, as it depends on community support.

"Civic Theatre depends on private financial support from people like you — people who realize the arts are vital for the enrichment of our community," Civic Theatre states on its website. "The arts restore our spirit, nurture our children, and improve our quality of life. Please help us continue that cultural enrichment by becoming a supporting member of Civic Theatre through an annual contribution. Becoming a member has its benefits!"

The theatre lists multiple tiers donors can give and receive different benefits from. These benefits include "Member," the $50 and up category in which donors will receive a mention in the show programs as well as concession discounts on Member Night.

There is also "Producer" for $250 and up that includes 50 percent of Civic merchandise; “Designer" for $500 and up that provides an invitation to an Annual Donor Appreciation Event; "Director" for $1,000 and up that will have donors' names acknowledged on the TV call board in the lobby; as well as "Featured Member," for $5,000 and up that includes all of the previously mentioned benefits as well as two complimentary tickets to all Civic shows for each season.

Ways to donate to Civic Theatre include online through Network for Good, over the phone at 765-423-7529, in person via check or through local business sponsors and advertisements.

Other nonprofits and organizations to be donated to, especially on Giving Tuesday, such as YWCA, Food Finders Food Bank, and more can be found. at greatnonprofits.org/city/lafayette/IN.

West Lafayette School Corporation is also taking part in Giving Tuesday by inviting WLSC members to wear scarlet and gray in support of WLSC schools, and take and post a photo of the themed clothing with the hashtag #ShowUsYourRDP. Explaining why one is proud to be a Red Devil is also encouraged along with this show of pride for West Lafayette schools and for Giving Tuesday.
