'A great hire': Twitter reacts to Jay Norvell becoming CSU football's next coach
Colorado State sent shock waves through the Mountain West on Monday.
The Rams have hired Jay Norvell as their next head coach after firing Steve Addazio last week.
Norvell has been Nevada's coach for the last five seasons. It is believed to be the first time a Mountain West head coach has left for the same position for another team in the conference.
The 58-year-old Norvell went 33-26 at Nevada, and the Wolf Pack have made a bowl each of the last four years.

That would be a huge pick up, his connections to Los Angeles is top tier https://t.co/iHQybrV3Bi

Excited to see what he does with this beautiful school, town, and community. Everything is his for the taking, I’m fired up. Be the man to get CSU over the hump. https://t.co/k8xDvPe55N

Been digging into this for a while. IMHO, solid hire. I'd give it 7.5 out of 10.
Jay appears to be really good at coaching up talent. Strong and Turner were not highly sought after in HS (Strong committed super early) and both are NFL prospects. https://t.co/OYuYGMoPr0— Kevin Kuhnen (@Kevinkuhnen) December 6, 2021
Boom! Great hire @JoeParkerCSU https://t.co/5l8eqqrKvJ

This is a fantastic hire that many in the CSU world wanted, but I didn’t think was all that realistic.
Worlds better than Bobo and Addazio. Very happy with this. https://t.co/ZYAUpH3N0Y— Matt Clapp (@Matt2Clapp) December 6, 2021

I don’t know if people outside the Mountain West know how wild this is. https://t.co/lE3n5gwBR1

see this is much better and what happens when you don’t let urban meyer run your entire coaching search https://t.co/EsmIwMNHxQ

He’ll be the first black head football coach in CSU history. Not why he got the job, but seems like an important step for the school https://t.co/Xx1b7eFbm9

Love this direction! Great hire. Done wonders at underfunded, under supported Nevada. Great leader, players love him, and he has beaten our a** multiple times. If you can do it in Reno, he can surely do it in Fort Collins with our resources, facilities, support. https://t.co/fvJtkCypcO

Props given where due. @JoeParkerCSU made a hire that people seem to be excited about and are going to open their wallets to support. Big first step.

Nevada reaction
Folks with ties to Reno weren't as excited about the move.
Can’t lie seeing you in the green tie makes me a little sick to my stomach, but no one is more deserving. Thank you for giving me a chance when no one else did. CSU got a good one. @CoachJayNorvell https://t.co/B9btctshl9

He did a great job at Nevada. Sorry to see him go, and surprised he’d leave for a job in-conference https://t.co/pvvwcjOQf3

This one hurts because we are going to miss the heck out of @CoachJayNorvell.
Thank you Coach for all you've done for @NevadaFootball and how you've brought @NevadaFBAlumni closer to the program.@CSUFootball is getting a great coach, but an even better man.

Such a bummer to lose a solid coach like Jay to an in-conference team due to money and facilities. Nevada really needs to find more money because Colorado State can’t even compete on the field but they still get hires like this due to financial resources. https://t.co/0pe3IhILx2

Couldn’t be happier for Coach Norvell one of the best people I have ever met.. all that man wants to do is WIN and take care of his people. Couldn’t have asked for a better head coach for my time at Nevada.
